OK, by using proper scaling and offsets I’ve solved my own problem. thnx for listening - again! In the end I used filters.transformation to apply a matrix derived in cloudcompare. Appropriate scaling and offsets solved the rest. So scaling set to 0.0001 in each spatial dimension, and offsets derived from the translation parameters in the transformation matrix, to keep X, Y and Z dimensions as integers inside 32 bit limits. Thanks for listening - again!

@adamsteer do should the PDAL PLY reader be updated to apply the transforms for you automatically?

@hobu no. I think this is entirely chair/keyboard stuff. I'll write something about the experience and see if I can add to the workshop/tutorial material.

*I don’t think it’s PDAL's job to try and infer how to handle every incoming data structure, I see understanding my data as my job :)
