[irc] <dol-sen> don't ecxpect zmedico to answer for 3-4 hours
[irc] <dol-sen> is 6am here
[irc] <zshzero> Okay, I will post it on #gentoo-portage
[irc] <zshzero> dol-sen: Yeah, i have saved the timezone. LOL
[irc] <dol-sen> I was up letting the dogs out to pee
[irc] <zshzero> dol-sen: LOL

[irc] <wantguns> hey guys ! i have some good but more bad news. so the new convertor i bought successfully gave the bootloader logs. bad news is, that it wont give kernel logs. and this is not problematic at the hardware side, it has to do with my vendor's downstream kernel.
[irc] <wantguns> because i talked to the guy at postmarketos and he told me that while using the mainline kernel (for postmarketos), he could get the kernel logs as well. I am kind of bummed, this was not mentioned anywhere on the wiki and neither did he told me about it first.
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <wantguns> the mainline kernel would not boot android (something im not very confident of) and so my two choices which remain are: 1) debug the vendor downstream kernel for enabling the kernel logs 2) abandon UART and instead use hacky debugs
[irc] <wantguns> i dont know enough kernel development to possible provide a patch enabling the UART and at that point we would probably be off-track with regards to GSoC. what do you guys suggest ?

[irc] <dol-sen> cracks the gsoc whip... get coding! :)
[irc] <dol-sen> zshzero, please get us the updated timeline and what you intend to get done the next couple days/week
[irc] <dol-sen> so we know what you are up to
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <dol-sen> also do you need a repo on git.gentoo.org to push to?
[irc] <dol-sen> also we will need the link to your blog
[irc] <dol-sen> we need to put in a request for your project for any needs
[irc] <dol-sen> with the infra team
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <zshzero> dol-sen: Okay, will let you know.
[irc] <zshzero> I am using a repo on gitlab for my toolchain. Is that ok ?
[irc] <zshzero> Yeah, will send you the link soon. I am using hugo to create static sites and hosting them on github.
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <wantguns> i have given up on the hopes of using kernel logs via UART for debugging. i am using some hacky and non-idiomatic techniques, which are actually coming up as helpful. expect a blog about it in a day or two.
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <wantguns> hey everyone ! i finally managed to run gentoo on my phone via preinit. spent the craziest time debugging the process, but finally some progress made
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <wantguns> btw just pushed a new blog, i thought the material was losing its shine as we progress further : https://wantguns.gitlab.io/blog/gsoc2020/android_boot_high_jinks/
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <KireinaHoro> yeah, good job on keeping track of valuable material and discussion in your blog
[irc] <KireinaHoro> i'd be interested to learn about how you worked it out; would be great to see a write-up
[irc] <KireinaHoro> ah sorry if my nick looked strange, the matrix <-> freenode bridge was acting out
Lucas Ramage
@oxr463
Wooo!
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <KireinaHoro> hello
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <wantguns> KireinaHoro: I basically had to sleep the init script between different steps and keep a check of time it took for the script to exit/die. I also tried to force panic the kernel in order to get the last_kmsg and console-ramoops. But they were of no use. I will explain it in detail in my upcoming blog
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <zshzero> heroxbd: dol-sen: I was facing issues while emerging gcc (Libraries were installed but they were not recognized by the portage)
[irc] <zshzero> I am working on it now
[irc] <zshzero> This is the link to my blog(No post present now) => https://zshzero.github.io/blog/

[irc] <wantguns> I will be uploading the the Booting Gentoo blog by this weekend. I have the shortnotes made but I wanted to focus on booting Android in the container first.
[irc] <wantguns> after two days of bashing my head against it, i think I have the optimal approach to it (which btw is simple; shouldn't have taken this long).
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <wantguns> But even then, Android just won't boot up. I think it could have to do with my kernel, the logs haven't been very helpful
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <KireinaHoro> You really should try to get a serial console to see what's going on as well as interact with it, so that you can poke around and see what's wrong. That will save you lots of reboots
[irc] <KireinaHoro> But do work as you see fit
[irc] <wantguns> are you suggesting to look into the kernel my vendor provided and make UART work?
[irc] <wantguns> because, I think doing that will be going too off-topic with regards to GSoC
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <KireinaHoro> i'm not going to interfere too much on how you solve the problem, just suggesting that you gear yourself up to get ready to debug things. would be glad if you worked out your own way
[irc] <wantguns> oh okay
Mako
@sharkbait-bot
[irc] <zshzero> heroxbd: dol-sen: I have written a blog on how to install and build crOS => https://zshzero.github.io/blog/gsoc/build-and-install-chromium-os/
[irc] <zshzero> I have never written a blog. Suggestions are most welcomed

UnderSampled
@UnderSampled
@WantGuns sorry i'm not on the IRC. If you look into a cheap Pixel 2 or something, which you think has the boot system you're wanting to fix, I can help you get it
I would be focused on the build-system stuff more though -- There are plenty of users who will be able to use portage-powered Android even if they can't boot into it.
Gunwant Jain
@WantGuns
Thanks @UnderSampled . I will let you know if I need it by 2-3 days. Right now, Gentoo boots, so I am counting on using ssh for a remote session to control the lxc container. If that works, we would not need another device. Also, if I am correct about getting runtime scheduling to work, we should be done with booting Android in no time.

Yes, I hope I get over with my current deliverable in this week so that I can work on the build system part. It will definitely be more interesting and a lot of learning would take place for it.

I recommend you to have a look at the irc channel or make mako-bot work because we did have some very light discussions there.

@oxr463
Yeah, until I get this issue with Digital Ocean resolved, the primary chat should be on IRC
