Team, shall I try my luck in here. I understand if no representatives of shipchain accepts to answer but got to try. Say I'm a shipper, I want to use the Shipchain network and I've got 10k$ in my budget. What will I buy with my USDs: Access to the network for a certain period
Or
A definite number of transactions
Leeward Bound
@leewardbound
Nick, just nobody has a straight answer to that right now for the long term
In loom, 1 payment gets you 1 year of deployment rights
But that's only for the first year
We are basically looking at trying to get small dapps on board for free, and larger dapps onboard for a fair onetime payment, for the first year

@ghost~5cd9b8bfd73408ce4fc02a6b
I understand. I rather had in mind a potential shipper willing to use the APIs developed by Shipchain Inc though. Expecting this to be your main source of revenues. And other dapps dev to be the secondary one.

If I want an ERP for my Supply Chain I'm paying a fixed fee to have access to it and their software support. I'm not paying a fee per SKU or per Pallet or per shipment. Therefore I was wondering if getting access to your APIs would be similar.
Leeward Bound
@leewardbound
Yeah so shipchain Inc is a private company that will collect USD
We will pay fair fees for the Karma we (and our clients) consume

alright boys, shall we play the game of 'find the 7 mistakes'?
hope there are less than that :-) and would love to confirm the assumptions in red. I don't think we need to know what you will do with the 50mio SHIP in company reserves but rather need to know what you will NOT do with it (such as paying your Karma with SHIPs you already had in custody)
(it's Nicolas btw - I've moved my github account to my old hotmail address)

Overall that's a cool diagram but definitely want to pre-empt anyone thinking that's our official figure! I will try to reply here shortly -

1 question i would like to ask. Currently you are forking loom developments in to a ship version of the network. Which entity will take over that devops?
Adam Hodges
@ajhodges
It's on our roadmap to automate the builds of our fork. Admin/deployment of these builds will probably go through the foundation? Lee correct me if I'm wrong.
ShipChainEurope
@ShipChainEurope
True automation would be impossible I would say. Not sure how this works in these codesets. Reapplying codeadjustments would be feasible I guess but you never know if an adjustment in a new loom release would require new coding for your earlier "ship coding"
You still need some human intervention
Adam Hodges
@ajhodges
Sorry - when I mentioned automation I was not talking about automating the merging/updating of our fork. That will always have to be manual - right now it falls on me, and I'm not sure what it will look like in the future but I'd imagine that the foundation will take custody of that task.
Leeward Bound
@leewardbound
Right now we are basically running vanilla loom codebase
Very few adjustments, mostly additions / contracts on top

I was wondering if anyone had already reached out to the professionals running validator nodes from other PoS blockchains / or if we feel their interests into the Shipchain network will come naturally/organically hence not worth the effort / or any other points of you on the matter?
Leeward Bound
@leewardbound
we plan on reaching out soonish
we've talked to a few in private and plan on talking to more shortly

Hi everyone. I'm wondering how txs intensive would be the platform. Say I'm shipping one parcel from the east to the west coast in the US by track. How many transactions would be recorded on the blockchain. For sure minimum 2, at the start and the end. And current track and Trace systems would also record any interim steps (intermediary DCs). But I'm puzzled with the GPS tracking. This is meant to be real time right, which leads to an indefinite amount of txs on the blockchain? Can somebody clarify that please?
ShipChainEurope
@ShipChainEurope
Minimum would be 1 I guess. When the data is logged offline. And pushed onto the blockchain in 1 single transaction
royaljelly2018
@royaljelly2018
It depends on the destination but for example when you ship a product in USA to USA it might go from warehouse to an intermediary to your local post office and then finally your house
Shipping from China I’ve seen up to 20 records for one package before it reached my home in nl
Not as to say it will work the same way with shipping but many line items are typically recorded for a consumer item before it arrives at your home.
Leeward Bound
@leewardbound
You can configure on a per shipment basis how frequently (if at all) you want a shipments GPS to checkpoint/hashsum into the blockchain
So you are correct about the 2 at beginning and end (and any intermediate stops) but for the GPS, yeah it could be once a day, or it could be at 5 minute resolution
Adam Hodges
@ajhodges
Our vault hashing/notary system allows the user to control the granularity of notarization of vaults, based on their requirements of immutability and cost/performance. This is also a mechanism that will allow us to scale beyond even the limits of a sidechain. It's configurable by customer, but our defaults are to notarize hashes of tracking updates every ~2 hours (because they are so frequent and otherwise would cause a flood of transactions) or ~5 minutes for other shipment data updates. So transaction count is currently highly dependent on the length (in time) of the shipment. I guess to (not answer) your question, it could be tens, hundreds, or thousands per-shipment.

You did answered, both of you, very clearly thank you.
