Just saw the tweet about the folding@home, how is that going to work
it's already working - it's us using server capacity we have
You can follow our team here https://stats.foldingathome.org/team/245213 keep in mind that folding@home is having trouble keeping up with the influx of new volunteers so they aren't fully utilizing everything we're making available to them yet, but they've been working on scaling their infra and keeping jobs in the pool for everyone to work on
Also feel free to use our team ID and contribute your own idle computing power!
Also, that stats page only updates a couple times a day
That's very cool Adam, thanks for sharing.
Everyone fyi we have informed the community on Telegram about yesterday's talks on Gitter along these lines:
LOOM's leadership has changed earlier this quarter. 2 co founders out 3 have now left to new endeavors.
As a result, the new CEO has informed shipchain yesterday that LOOM would drastically reduce their development of Basechain's open source code and SDK and focus on private development from now on.
The main consequence of this pivot is that Shipchain Inc. would have to under take more development responsibility than initially planned (split so far was Shipchain Inc = the dApps, Loom = the sidechain, Loom+Shipchain = integration of the 2).
John Monarch has outlined it as the lead option they were leaning on but also proposed to validators yesterday to explore alternatives such as Matic or Cosmos.
We've now entered an informal consultation period of likely few days where criteria such as development skills, timings, funding, scalability vs decentralization and token economics are being openly discussed.
Whichever option is chosen, it has been guaranteed that the SHIP token would remain the native token of the network.
John Monarch took the opportunity to inform us that ShipChain was approached recently by the new leader of the BiTA organization and opened discussions about Shipchain providing our sidechain and standards to them, assisting in development, and having their members on their technical + standards committee be a part of what we are doing as third party developers and enhancing the community.
Exchanges of yesterday outlined a couple of key arguments in favor of plan A = Loom's SDK: no more development was required from Loom to launch the mainnet and move txs to the sidechain / this route is compatible with the BiTA opportunity mentioned above. Having said that, the undeniable shift of resources would certainly imply some delays in Shipchain's development roadmap.
COVID-19 forced all Shipchain Inc members to WFH and adapt their internal communication methods adding to those delays. Nevertheless it was estimated that should we stay with plan A, mainnet launch would still be feasible within April (2-4 wks delay) should we get a clear consensus from validators relatively quickly.
All details available on Gitter.
Welcome The Rocketter. Welcome on board. Recent news about a surge of interests from the BiTA itself may be even be more bullish in the short and mid term than contributing the Baseline Protocol. The next step is for ShipChain Inc to double check and confirm which protocol is the right one for our sidechain. Right now our testnet runs on Loom's SDK which is the only platform we know with full EVM compatibility and a battle tested dPoS consensus. Loom's mainnet went live more than a year ago. You will read more on Gitter why there is a need to recheck all alternatives though.
Hi and thanks for the welcome. What is the BiTA? I understand that the Loom protocols commitments have changed and that Cosmos and Matic are looking as viable options for migration. Would the migration be the launch of Shipchains mainnet?
In regards to the Shiptoken I understand that Shipchain Inc does not partake in exchange listing fees, which I am happy to hear. Are there any plans of listing the token of DEX's such as kyberswap?
The best way to research employees at shipchain is look this employer up on LinkedIn - you should find about 25-30 employees - as the whitepaper from 2017 is now relatively out of date and the Teams page on shipchain.io has apparently been removed.
Hi all, Could someone say if testnet-beta is still up and running? @ajhodges@johnmonarch ? We would like to explore the more advanced setups without risking productive downtime. If so what would be the URL to reach the validator overview ?
