For esp14 - it seems that you could flash the esp mcu but it is still a mystery to me how to flash the smt8 mcu. Does anyone of you know smt8 Arduino port or other tool for easier development?

Hello guys, anybody interested in porting MAX72XX library from arduino to Sming ?
except me :D

Does Sming support bitbag SPI ?

it seems i need stlink programmer for programing stm8. shit.. http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/04/13/how-to-program-stm8s-1-board-in-linux/

@alonewolfx2 if you have any success with flashing the stm8 inside of esp-14 - please tell us how you did it: which pins did you use, , did you flash it with the ST-Link programmer, etc.

I hardly wait new esp32 chip - I have problems running stepper motors - like flickering while it needs to switch GPIOs - seem like pretty unreliable operation

Nov 27 2015 22:27
Alonewolf, what could be wrong with it?
alonewolfx2
@alonewolfx2
Nov 27 2015 22:29
nothing. just 512kb flash is a little small for ota things

@w00tc0d3
Nov 27 2015 22:29
Ah yes I see
It's the first microcontroller I'll buy
so I don't really mind it having limited functionality
BTW
I have this error when trying to build the blink module
"/opt/esp-open-sdk/xtensa-lx106-elf/lib/gcc/xtensa-lx106-elf/4.8.2/../../../../xtensa-lx106-elf/bin/ld: cannot find -lsming"

Ah, fixed it
Hehe. Compiled my own firmware.
I never did this before for AVRs. It's really cool... :D

@alonewolfx2 In theory, if you have ST-Link then you should be able to connect the ST-Link to M-RST, SWIM, GND, and M_VDD (http://www.cnx-software.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/ESP-12E_vs_ESP-14-Pinout.png) and be able to program the stm8. Can you try this?

Nov 27 2015 22:46
@alonewolfx2 the possibilities are endless. :) I was initially planning on making my own clock, but I figured 1.44" screens are too small. =/
alonewolfx2
@alonewolfx2
Nov 27 2015 22:47
@slaff i dont have st-link. thats crash point :)
@w00tc0d3 1,44" can be small but real problem is power consumptnion
w00tc0d3
@w00tc0d3
Nov 27 2015 22:49
@alonewolfx2 I could always hook up an external power supply to the VCC right? ^^

Nov 27 2015 22:50
esp8266 need almost peak 250 ma in boot. and mostly stable 90ma in work mode. plus oled screen power and small battery sizes can be die in a couple hours
w00tc0d3
@w00tc0d3
Nov 27 2015 22:50
ah yes
But for a clock next to my bed (displaying time + weather/temperature outside) it'd be perfect I guess?

oh sorry i tought like smart watch

@alonewolfx2
Nov 27 2015 22:51
you can use 2.2" spi screen and i think its good
w00tc0d3
@w00tc0d3
Nov 27 2015 22:55
that certainly would be fine
Guess I'll order an ESP-12E/14 + 2.2" SPI display then. =)
