@alonewolfx2 Yes I followed that. I was able to make esp work as a repeater for a while.That was cool. But the wifi connection of esp drops after sometime. Can you tell me where should I start, to make a simple application out of it?

Crosofg: isnt that feature called mesh or meshing? Espressif had this feature anounced... But i dont know if we have this as service in Sming.

Library from sdk is libmesh.
Libmesh.a probably just include this in sming-user.mk as custom lib. Than you will need to call some libmesh sdk functions.

@zhivko But what i am lookig for is accessing web pages from internet throug the AP of ESP. How will paket forwrding , NAT will be implemented? I am sure there must be something more than just meshing. In the meshing sdk, the esp can send some data to preregisted esp mac address.
the mesh sdk is limited only to the ESP device, i think

I think it just listens for tcp trafic and echoes this trafic if the packet is not for this mesh node.

@crosofg you need to write some code for this.
1- create dns server like udp server for listening dns requests
2- create redirect class for ap-to sta
3- create http server for redirecting http data
i think it can work
but for slow data rates

Dec 12 2015 18:15
it's esp8266 based iot platform
seeed's grove system
  • esp8266
and I think it is compatible with sming.
as any esp8266
Richard Antony Burton
@raburton
Dec 12 2015 18:17
i thought the esp8266 was an iot platform, i can't actually work out what their actual product is

is it basically another dev board, with some kind of mobile app?
and a new api?
Dmitry Kireev
@kireevco
Dec 12 2015 18:18
it's the set of sensors
mobile app
and overall platform
this is closer to people, that's why they back it:)

if they can get it to do hw pwm i'll be interested
Dmitry Kireev
@kireevco
Dec 12 2015 18:19
and they do arduino ide as an ide :-Dlol
and meanwhile buildig their own ide... but not yet.
just an example of marketing and market needs:)

steve jobs makes nice gui, he doesn't cure cancer

on my wrist, on my desk, in my pocket.
I don't think it has anything to do with his talent :)
same as any other invention, that was picked up sometimes years after.
(not just apple)
you need to deliver it to the world.
engineering is as important as marketing.
just 2 worlds

Richard Antony Burton
@raburton
Dec 12 2015 21:08
are you aware of any commercial project based on an esp8266? the only one i know of is the rgb led controller you can get on aliexpress
Dmitry Kireev
@kireevco
Dec 12 2015 21:08
that is my question. I don't know
Richard Antony Burton
@raburton
Dec 12 2015 21:09
it's surprising how popular for saying they don't appear to be used for anything other than hobby yet, although i suppose the development time for real commercial products is probably quite a bit longer
than the average hobby project
Dmitry Kireev
@kireevco
Dec 12 2015 21:10
you never know. Any commercial project - is something that makes you money. whether it is an MVP or final one
Curtis Pope
@piperpilot
Dec 12 2015 22:48
I'm working on a commercial project that uses an ESP-12 as part of the solution...provides the wifi interface...it also has a PIC that provides the main logic although we probably could have done the whole thing with the ESP-12 and an external higher resolution ADC
Richard Antony Burton
@raburton
Dec 12 2015 23:03
cool, i guess it's just a matter of time to market, we'll start to see these things out there eventually then!
Dmitry Kireev
@kireevco
Dec 12 2015 23:11
@piperpilot how's the stability? overall?
@piperpilot is your device in production?
Curtis Pope
@piperpilot
Dec 12 2015 23:12
no...getting ready to release a beta in a month or so...finishing up firmware
I need to be able to flash the PIC from the ESP so that I can do OTA update of the PIC as well as the ESP...writing the boot loader now
Dmitry Kireev
@kireevco
