Meanwhile you can switch to using rBoot instead of the standard boot loader. This will definitely give you more space for your app.

@slaff I ended up ditching the ir receiver code as well from my example, as this was the only way to get things rolling. So now I have a neat wifi ir blaster which can be invoked with a command like http://esp_ip_address/send?p=Panasonic%20Old&d=37D105,373119,36113D,366133&f=38&w=300
and nice status page, with wifi setup bootstrap

@sle118 If you use rBoot as bootloader and compile the library and application with ENABLE_CUSTOM_LWIP=1 this will give you additional flash and heap space.

does rBoot have a different way to position the images? I made some changes to the linker to give more space to the code (0xA000) and my guess is I have to update rBoot's make files as well?
