I have packaged up Sming 3.5.0 (with patch for Cygwin), xtensa compiler, SDK 2.0.0 with patches and esptool.py and written a bash script to install these for many (most) platforms. The idea is to make the entry to Sming low-friction. (I have found it a chore and I am an experienced developer!). You can find the installer here: https://github.com/riban-bw/Sming-Release.

I have tested the installer script and it seems to work on: Linux (i686 / x86_64 / armv6l), Windows Cygwin32 (i686 / x86_64). Travis-CI is failing the OS X (x86_64) build but it may be a Travis_CI issue. If this proves useful (which it has to me already) then I suggest adding this to the main Sming wiki as the default installation method and add process to update during release cycles.

@maerf give my installer a bash. It runs within a cygwin32 shell. I will add a guide to Sming wiki when I get a minute (and after peers have reviewed the installer). Your feedback would be appreciated. Now - more DIY - still got 10 fingers!
