Soundnode App is the Soundcloud for desktop. Built with Electron, AngularJS and consuming Soundcloud API.
it was working fine and then just randomly started refusing to play anything
@n0f3 It could be due to the rate limit that soundcloud has. Each key only allows at most 15k plays per 24 hour period I believe. There's a workaround available here. Soundnode/soundnode-app#802
@RedHope thanks for the link, indeed that was the problem! gonna read the thread later for more insight into it :)
Uh, I just started using soundnode and my music sound laggy and cuts in and out rapidly, I tested this on Spotify/The actual soundcloud website and the problem isn't happening there. So what I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem before and if there's a solution for it
PLEASE can someone help me get an API key so I can use the desktop app?
the program won't plpay the songs it just stays at the beginning
Hello, what do you think about it? (O couldn't find some color text) I've a problem - I don't know how to save it ;-;
@ojoka27 We have a 15k streaming limit imposed by Soundcloud.
@Pyrol That looks really cool. Personally I would maybe soften the colors a bit, and also the buttons could use a different color scheme. I didn't know that this was supported. @weblancaster Is there actual support for themes ?
@RedHope there is no support for themes but I believe the way the CSS is structure might help to setup one a bit easier.
I have a trouble with the app, every time I try to listen a song, it wont start and stay stuck can someone help me
@alamo18 Thanks, this is fixed in a PR that isn't merged yet. Will get that fixed soon
hi. so i thought i was pretty good with a computer. downloaded sound node yesterday and music stopped playing. went to #802 forum and tried to figure it out. but i guess im not as good with a computer as i thought. is there any simple step by step instructions on how to get tracks to play?
i should mention that i really really enjoyed the app for the couple hours it was running. ive tried a bunch of other desktop apps for soundcloud and non are as quick, or functional as sound node. that said, i cant code so trying to learn coding and understand java just to get sound node to play music is becoming tiresome and So if there was a reasonably comprehensive set regarding set-up and installation, setup and debugging steps.

How do I find my API key? The default is rate limited (I think) because I can't play anything and I saw related issues on GH

OK, in chrome I was able to open the developer tools then click network and filter on client_id then right click and "copy url" to get the url with the query string including client_id
It will be great to get rid of the damn rate limit problem.
@zachshulman You can run the latest and should be able to change your API Key to one that works.
@zbeekman yeah, i believe the client id in each URL request is the API Key. (I think soundcloud has their own pool of keys?)
real quick question... when i run the app with npm run start does it run the app or do i need to download and run the app to see the changes i made?

FYI on macOS there is no quit option in the menu and closing out of the window seems to make it so you can’t open it again. (Run through .app)
I realy often get the error message, that the soundcloud API only allows a limited traffic. I can imagine somewhere in sourcecode I can insert my own soundcloud-API-Key, am I right? Couldnt find the correct place that quickly. I may have a deeper look into it
but maybe someone of you have done it so far and can tell me the place :)
So huh, SoundCloud won't generate APIs anymore?
@equaliser0 you can in the Developer Tools
I know. But they shut down registering for API Tokens. They say its because of too much used services by thirdparty. :(
Maybe I can have a interview with them to get some
Hey, so the indian government decided that soundcloud.com is 'unethical' for whatever reason, and now Indian ISPs are starting to block the website. The official soundcloud apps still work (IOS and Adnroid) since they have direct DB connectivity and don't use the website data. However the problem is, to use soundcloud on desktop I have to use a vpn service, which is either pay-to-win or gives me a monthly free quota.
Is there a way you could set up soundnode such that: soundcloud data is replicated on a proxy website, and soundnode uses that proxy website to fetch its data?
