Well ok, here is the deal
@GoogleFrog If you guys have a layout that you want to use, then that is fine. I didn't realize you guys already had a set layout
But here is the rub...
If the background of the lobby is just black, then the skin on chili is going to be kind of irrelevant.
I suggest using that super pretty map of beherith's as a backdrop, with CUS implemented so that the trees wave back and forth
you can set the position of the camera, and lock it to that spot
then draw everything on top of it?

Welp, I think that if you're going to have soemthing like that, to me, playing meant nothing to me when I was just in id
I didn't understand why it was there
But if it is more descriptive, then it's purpose becomes clear
Also, flipping between the screens on the left is confusing
I was in a multi battle, and clicked on single, then custom
which I guess put me in a cuistom game
I clicked on multiplayer again, but the panel was blank
so I went back to single>custom
and hit leave
then clicked on multiplayer again, but the multi battles list didn't show up
Imo, you should be able to browse battles without leaving your current battle
unless you click on a different one

WRT the playing button, I think if it exists, it's purpose needs to be clear. I know what I'm doing and it still didn't make any sense to me, so that right there is a red flag

i don't want it to have too much info i think
i find ZK's battles a bit too distracting
so if it has a lot of stuff it needs to be in less visible font, right now it actually is pretty forward

one thing on skinning. I hate how robocracy has transparency in its panels. The panels should be opaque in the skin files and then transparency can be added in the panel config

Indeed they shouldn't. Although one could maybe make Chobby mutators for their game-specific lobby, if that's how we'll want to do it (still mostly undecided)

@GoogleFrog did you see the example of the battle button + status? do you think that'd be better?
To be extra clear, I think only the button should be clickable, and you shouldn't be able to change your spectator/play state from the "My Battle" button

forb bought up a point about the singleplayer skirmish room. It is confusing that the SP and MP ones work differently wrt how they can be left

to start a new custom battle from scratch you need to click Leave
but maybe we're just being power users
that was what I was advocating before. Returning to the main menu should clear your whole state
at least for the main panels, not for the right ones

the idea of allowing the user to explore the interface while they wait for the battle/queue isn't bad
but the way we designed the layout & menu right now it makes sense to leave the battle/queue when you click <- button

idk if large scale random exploration is good
because they would be focused on doing a single thing. being in a battle or MM
and during this random exploration they might click Skirmish and then leave their MP battle
so I think it is better to give them a consistent rule for clearing state

I think for SP battle persistence I like the solution where Skirmish remembers its state but does not show up at the top of the screen
because for Skirmish nothing in the battle can change without the player causing it to change
and this allows people to switch to a different screen and then resume setting up their Skirmish game

btw i need to know the licenses on all images (especially icons and skins) that we use
needs to be clear imo, and probably CC0 or akin to that
don't care that much about code since it should all be GPL compat anyway
and any shaders we use/make should be GPL compat

I think #152 is the only problem, but the rest of the issues currently in the milestone shouldn't be too hard, 5-30mins each imo
Btw I plan to make the release late on Friday actually. Won't be able to code on Saturday/Sunday and the days after, but should be able to work until then, probably the most time on Wednesday/Thursday
And I think you can handle any hotfixes. I'll still be able to comment in threads and on gitter

in case anyone is wondering, skin is coming along. I'm basically doing it all inside a unified PSD (for all the elements that start with the same basic shape) so that hopefully in the future, people won't have to go through contortions in order to create their own skin.

I want to add a new element to chili called an overlay window. I tried doing it in the skin file but apparently that isn't the correct way to do it. Either that or I targeted it incorrectly? Halp?
Basically the reason is that you guys keep using stuff like "window" for overlay things, and so if window has transparency on it, shit starts looking really bad, therefore, the obvious solution is to have an overlay window which would then be used for things like tooltips, etc.
