I vote for the rock climbing, the calendar second
sorry no internet until now
the calendar pay less and, as I understand, requires integration with wordpress
the rock climbing should be easy to build on node/mongo
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:37
I havnt done node or mongo. But im pretty good with js and could catch on quick prolly if u show me
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:38
sorry no internet until now as well
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:38
node can be tricky
it can be done with php too, but the mongo thing should be ideal
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:39
I dont even kno how to go live with node or mongo. Do u?
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:39
although it depends on what they really want
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:39
the rock climbing one didnt seem that hard, I could do it with SQL, html, css, php but thats what I know for now, wouldnt the graphs be hard to work? or would that be done with javascrtipt
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:39
I've built some simple apps with node/express/mongo
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:39
Graphs shouldnt be hard at all really
We could do a simple bar graph
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:40
there are js libraries to build graphs
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:40
The skills say php and mysql so prolly best we use that unless u wanna ask about node
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:40
you can send the raw data to the front end and render the graph there
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:40
if you choose to go with node, im out of the picture, i dont even know javascript all that well, besides the similatires between it and php
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:41
let's keep with php
no problem
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:42
so I could primaily consontrate on the DB if you guys felt confident with the other backend, and if @Charzoe wants, she could hop on teh front end, and design
the*
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:42
no problem
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:44
okay, so it was the rock climbing one, and the calendar?
calendar*
Charlotte
@Charzoe
Oct 20 2015 01:47
I can do great graphs :)
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:48
fine!
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:48
@coltonehrman ?how do u feel about the to projects
think we could do it?
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:48
the calendar should be easy, but I've not worked with wordpress since... 7 years?
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:49
thats fine, colton is a wordpress developer right now
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:49
an important thing with the graphs: I'm supposing they can collect the data
Charlotte
@Charzoe
Oct 20 2015 01:50
I do wordpress too btw
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:50
and we're going to store and show that data
collecting the data is a different thing
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:50
yea, I can work with the data, just need someone to work on the graph section, i guess “joining” the graph apperance, with the values
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:51
they have to tell us what format has that data
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:51
yea, besides VARCHAR, TEXT, and date time, can you insert media files?
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:51
the type of graph depends on the data
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:51
or perhaps entire programs?
kk
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:51
Yeh i feel confident about the graph project
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:52
@TheC0mposer I've seen weird data formats, it's really important to know that
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:52
Im thinkin the graph is simple numbers one that will track there progress
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:52
sometimes it's necessary some transformation
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:52
@jbmartinez thats fine, if i feel im to far over my head we can always help one another, which im counting on lol
kk
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:52
:+1:
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:53
Lets all start this project together
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:53
dose anyone rememebr if they have there own server? highly unlikely
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:53
Then once we have a good handle on the structure we can branch off amd assign different sections to ppl
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:53
well, first thing, we need to place a bid, theres no gaurentee we will even get it
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:53
True
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:54
and it can take up to five days, from what I remember, just being logical is all
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 01:55
It could take longer
I would tell him a month
Just in case
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 01:55
BUT..I am down, one last thing, someone else is going to need to start the outsource account, apparently I ran a red light on saturday night and was slapped with a $500+ bill :(
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 01:56
whoa
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:03
Tell me about it
Any takers?
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:08
I'd do it if I could man
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:09
I can
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:12
Kk, if you want Colton, once we finish the project, you can take half of whoever you payed for the out source account and Take it out of my half
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:12
Ok
Charlotte
@Charzoe
Oct 20 2015 02:14
Try contesting the ticket, theres a good chance youll just get off
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:16
Before we start does everyone have screenhero downloaded?
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:19
I'll try, hopping I can work through it, luckily I have family that are in law so I should be able to work something out, and @coltonehrman you know I do lol
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:20
Lol yeh
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:24
Does anyone remember what server he had in mind by the way for the rockclimbing website
Most likely a host of course
Jw
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:25
as far as I remember he said he was "creating a web site"
he didn't mention any server or hosting service
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:25
I'm just curious what we're going to build the database off of is all
Don't we have to do all of our querying statements within their server, another words build it, I. There web hosting service server
I didn't say something dumb did it lol
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:31
Most hosting services use mysql so we can easily use that
They also usually have phpnyadmin installed
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:32
yup
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:33
We shouldnt be responsible for finding his hosting service. That should be his responsibility
We could set it up for him tho
Domain name also
I have a feeling he already has something in place
And just looking for an add on
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:36
Kk, jw
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:37
I would prefer doing this project locally tho
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:38
So I know what it dose but how exactly does phpmyadmin work. Is it run in work bench? It's a tool to "admin" MySQL
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:38
And would be awesome if someone knew how to use git
Its a gui just like work bench
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:38
Git is the terminal right?
Kk
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:38
It does the same thing. Work bench is more user friendly than phpmyadmin
U can use either or
And yes git is run thru terminal
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:39
If so, I've found that the easiest of everything, should be on the git section within the PhP track on free house by the time they reply for aure
Kk, I'll use work bench for now
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:39
And we can upload the project into a repo on github and have seperate branches for each of our local environments
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:39
Is there a phpmyadmin course in treehouse?
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:40
No. Dont worry its just like workbench
Ill show u around wen we get to it
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:40
Kk, so easy to learn if you already kno a gui, work bench
Kk
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:40
It is a little more powerful and u can see mysql system databases on it tho so u have to be careful
Thats why i want to do it locally
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:41
Kk, so it's more robust..OHHH, I remember us talking about it a while ago
Understandable
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:41
Lol we talked about CLI
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:41
I use git
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:42
Yea annnnd phpmyadmin
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:42
Cool! Are u good with branches and pushes and stuff?
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:42
yup
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:42
@jbmartinez over here saying..yea, I'm just a badass..😎
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:42
LOL
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:43
Sweet so i guess u can get us all setup on working with it?
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:46
sure
but i recommend try-git
it's a very simple course
and it takes about 30 minutes to complete
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:47
Btw @coltonehrman you will love me for finding a website today, you use sub lime text, right?
@jbmartinez where is the course?
sourcetree and smartgit are excellent GUIs for git and can do almost all you can do with the CLI
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:50
Kk
So git is used in command line, terminal, etc. what is git, and what is it used for, I'm also googling it
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:50
What?! 😱 GUIs for git! Where have i been?!
Its a version control system
Mostly used with github
Which im sure uve heard of
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:51
you can modify your code and keep old versions
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:51
What's github 😉
Lol jk
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:51
Github is a repository place where u can "host" ur project source code
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:51
so, if something goes wrong you can get back to the old version
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:52
Shit. I guess I didn't know what github was for
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:52
I feel like the best reason for using git is for like our situation
We can all have local projects going and keep our projects in sync using git
Correct @jbmartinez
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:53
So it's just a way we can work on the and shit
I mean
Projects
Same* not and
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:53
Its good for teams
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:53
definitely
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:53
Kk
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 02:53
we all can have our code base updated
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:54
That's what copy and paste is for
JK
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:54
So like lets say ur workin on filea and i work on fileb and jb works on filec and chatzoe filed we can upload our files to the main repo amd all pull it back down to see everyones updates
Charlotte
@Charzoe
Oct 20 2015 02:54
I agree, github is amazing
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 02:54
Sorry "push" out files to main repo
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 02:55
Awesome
My internet is having maintenance done for the night, I can use my laptop tomorrow btw, so I guess @coltonehrman we can't practice tonight 😕

@jbmartinez how do connect with a webhosts server with terminal from the client side
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 18:58
@TheC0mposer try curl or wget
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 19:20
Kk, what is curl and wget, exactly like how workbench is a gui, what are they
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 19:21
curl and wget are cli tools to make request to an http server
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 19:37
awesome

I'm sure @Charzoe knows what I am going through LOL
Here's some free resources for everyone! http://learn.onemonth.com/topic/learning-library
@TheC0mposer When we start working on our portfolio we need to have a resource database for team members to access!
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 20:46
and what resources would you liket o fill it with? Like things to help us learn more code?
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 20:46
Everything from A-Z!
We cna organize it based on types (books,paid,free,video,reading, etc)
Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
Oct 20 2015 20:47
@coltonehrman I use curl and wget only for http request
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 20:47
okay well I have something really nice already we could add to that DB
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 20:47
Oh ok. But as far as say connecting to a web server's MySQL database how would you do that?
Ok cool! @TheC0mposer
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 20:48

whats code oregon?
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 20:51
also I would add wacom for desigenrs tablet for @Charzoe and as far as hardware goes, if anyone is searching, tough rugged laps are nice, BUT thats only if you want a monster like I do.
if you live in Oregon you get team Treehouse for free, my buddy lives in portland
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 20:52
What! That's cool.. why oregon?
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 20:52
i have NO F%#& clue..
lol
just is
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 20:52
LOL
Oh well.
I get free TTH anyways :p
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 20:53
so to also add to this “database” for hardware the laps I was reffering to can be found here
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 20:53
Don't worry about adding to it right now.
We need to get it built first :p
Oh @jbmartinez and @TheC0mposer are y'all interesting in getting started on that by the way?
I know @Charzoe can't :/
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 20:54
what you need really, as far as coding goes, is a nice CPU, about 8gig of ram or more, a dedicated graphics card, if not that then just get your 8gig ram pushed to 16, and get a external hard drive you keep serpatly to USB to your laptop, and get the smallest solidstate drive you can, I could add a few more suggestions but that will get most of you started for now :_)
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 20:54
If y'all are interested now would be a good time to test out multiple people on screenhero
TheC0mposer
@TheC0mposer
Oct 20 2015 20:54
dose that work?
Colton Ehrman
@coltonehrman
Oct 20 2015 20:55

Juan Martínez
@jbmartinez
