hey there, i am pretty new to this. Before i start coding i was asking myself, if it is possible to drop a text message in a channel without annoying the user with a "bing" sound. I need this because i wand to do some kind of news bot. But if there is everytime it sends a news to the channel a sound on clientside, it will not be accepted by the users

Well if the client is configured to 'bing' there is nothing you can do about it
But for me one message per connect wouldn't annoy me

Well on some servers there is a bot that sends you a private message when you connect

and in that private window you can post without a "bing" ?

If the user himself goes into his client settings and sets the bing to off then yes

its like the bot would check some rss feeds and post if there is a new news
i see, ok, thanks

But you could make that optional for the user
So he can subscribe to your news

well yes, thats one option
or have channels where its enabled by default and channels where its not or you have to enable it
is it possible to push/set client values somehow at server level? by that i could default set that sound on private messages to off

No, you can't change a client's settings remotely :stuck_out_tongue:
