    @flota113 The 'servers' are run on peoples home machines mostly, in diaspora's case.
    Tommy Izen
    @TommyIzen
    Sure, we must get organized
    flota113
    @flota113
    @Cylocation ok, thx ;)
    okelano
    @okelano
    Tried diaspora before
    Tommy Izen
    @TommyIzen
    What did you think of it?
    okelano
    @okelano
    Not the best option.
    Tommy Izen
    @TommyIzen
    Do you have other suggestions? We are thinking of a distributed option to handle load balancing.
    okelano
    @okelano
    Thinking now
    Chrysallis
    @Chrysallis
    I think distributed vs. server-based implementation should be hidden from regular users.
    they should not need to worry about it
    flota113
    @flota113
    http://podupti.me/ I think this is a list of Diaspora-based sites @TommyIzen
    Cylocation
    @Cylocation
    @Chrysallis You could get in trouble for 'hiding' the fact that you were using their computer resources.
    okelano
    @okelano
    Why not using tor for chat or irc?
    flota113
    @flota113
    @okelano it needs client - right? we are trying to avoid it ;)
    Chrysallis
    @Chrysallis
    @Cylocation well, by hiding I mean that how you use the service isn't affected by where things are stored. How it works can be in a FAQ
    Tommy Izen
    @TommyIzen
    @flota113 yeah the users shouldn't need to bother with downloading a client
    it should be transparent
    imho
    okelano
    @okelano
    Web irc not need it or simply implement chat into Web page
    Tommy Izen
    @TommyIzen
    yeah I don't care for adding an irc
    Chrysallis
    @Chrysallis
    @TommyIzen can a web client be allowed to do local storage?
    flota113
    @flota113
    @Chrysallis I'm almost sure that yes..
    Tommy Izen
    @TommyIzen
    @Chrysallis with html5 you have local sql storage so that's possible
    Cylocation
    @Cylocation
    @okelano What makes building a social network off of the diaspora code not a good option? Or were you saying that using diaspora itself is not a good option?
    Chrysallis
    @Chrysallis
    then maybe we can have our cake, and eat it too
    Tommy Izen
    @TommyIzen
    @Chrysallis haha yeah
    Quincy Larson
    @QuincyLarson
    Hi, thanks for inviting me to this room!
    I could create an official FCC room and invite everyone there
    Chrysallis
    @Chrysallis
    hello
    Quincy Larson
    @QuincyLarson
    is that OK with you all?
    okelano
    @okelano
    Some years ago when moocs was still on early stage I tried to develop open learning platform based diaspora.
    Cylocation
    @Cylocation
    Sure @QuincyLarson
    flota113
    @flota113
    Of course that yes :D
    Tommy Izen
    @TommyIzen
    Hi @QuincyLarson , sure!
    thank you!
    so people aren't staring at my face all day
    lol
    okelano
    @okelano
    The good option will be implementing diaspora engine but not all package.
    Darryl Pargeter
    @darrylpargeter
    How customisable is diaspora?
    Cylocation
    @Cylocation
    For the user? @silentfox91
    Quincy Larson
    @QuincyLarson
    OK - I’ve relocated everyone
    Darryl Pargeter
    @darrylpargeter

    Hi Everyone,
    I came to this thread in a search for social networking functionality

    Pagekit Social p1
    re the original post, nodejscourse, looks to be an IDEA for a course in node.js... as someone who built one of the first social networks, at the time the 19th largest site in the, served as VP Products, the Chief Product Officer for the largest outsourcer of online communities at the time, helped develop what became the #3 social game company in its time, consulted on the creation of one of the most successful social casino programs and currently specializes in the gamification and socialization of fitness (FYI - add rewards and habit formation and you have the foundation of a platform to develop lasting fitness results), I can state with authority that you don't have to leave your basement to have a social life ;-), joking, nodejscourse does not have the minimum features of, let alone the underlying mechanics required of a social network..... s

    Pagekit Social p2

    We are committed to developing the members area of www.fitrepreneur.me using Pagekit and I feel strongly that we should integrate our social network, currenlty SocialEngine, into our members area.

    We are presently discussing whether to:
    a) port SocialEngine vi widgets into Pagekit
    b) investigating the feasibility of other solutions
    bi) piecing together a variety of 3rd-party social tools
    c) considering building our own.

    I would very much like to hear the thoughts of of this group.

    I am happy to continue general discussion of building a Pagekit Social Network here

    AND

    I invite all interested people to join in the the requirements creation process specific to the needs of Fc at
