I'll just wait a day and see if anyone else responds here then do that

@rbndickson
thanks for all your work on tracks by the way it's a really great app
Dan Rice
@dnrce
Hi @rbndickson!
Feel free to work on whatever you’re interested in
We are indeed working to move the UI over to Bootstrap. We’re doing it incrementally (i.e. trying not to break everything along the way) with the eventual goal being a fully responsive design.
You don’t need to work on an existing issue, but if you have an idea that’s not on there you may want to file a ticket to get feedback and let others know what you’re working on.
Dan Rice
@dnrce
as @C-Otto mentioned there are a lot of small bugs which he has been very good about reporting
hopefully the UI migration will take care of a number of them
but there’s certainly room for a fair bit of improvement under the hood as well
Robin Dickson
@rbndickson
Hi! That all makes sense. I think I'll start with working on moving some of the simpler pages or elements of pages to bootstrap. And have a look at the bugs after that.

@mattr-
:thumbsup:
i have been swamped. thanks everybody for keeping things going. slowly but surely. :smiley:

Is the add new recurring todo modal displaying correctly in the latest version? It's not for me, but I'm not sure if something is up with my setup. Because if I checkout a previous commit (that I know it was working) it still displays incorrectly.
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
rbndickson: looks fine for me, i'm on a recent master
did you regenerate the assets?
Robin Dickson
@rbndickson
I just tried. When I switch to the commit prior to the Rails 4.2 and regenerate assets it displays fine but then after changing back to the latest commit it isn't displaying correctly again.
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
i'll try
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
rbndickson: you're right. just merged with master, now I get the dialog mixed into the right bar
with a wider screen it's in the main window, but still far on the right side - and very narrow
rbndickson: is that it?
Robin Dickson
@rbndickson
Yep that's it, thanks for creating the issue
Dan Rice
@dnrce
@rbndickson this should now be fixed by #2026.
Robin Dickson
@rbndickson
@dnrce all working now, thanks :)

wow.
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
is anyone of you actively working on tracks?
I might chime in again soonish, but right now I just see more and more issues piling up
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
The UI sucks
just sayin'
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
could it be that the file app/projects/_project.html.erb is dead code?
i'm unable to figure out what it is supposed to do
deleting it doesn't harm anything
ah. creating a new project and navigating to it.
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
the more I do, the more bugs I find
I need help with this
adding tests, refactoring the messy code, throwing away the UI
especially the JS-erb-controller logic duplication causes a lot of issues
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
this sucks.
how do you like the idea of removing features, to thin out the code and get rid of corresponding bugs?
the mobile website, non-javascript-browsers, ical, onenote, ...?
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
I give up
see my recent comment
tracks is not in a state that can be worked with
I tried - for years - and did not get far with that
as much as I enjoy having many tests, this does not help in a code base full of code duplication and without static type checks
having a bunch of necessary tests that are slow and browser based (cucumber) doesn't help either
Robin Dickson
@rbndickson
@C-Otto I was/am interested in working on tracks but ran into the issues you are talking about. I looked into converting some things to Bootstrap but it really just added even more code into the html while removing a little from the css so wasn't sure it was worth it.
Robin Dickson
@rbndickson
re: UI changes - I personally run a branch that I made for myself that removes a lot from the UI. I haven't done anything about this on the main branch as I don't know how those kinds of changes would be received by most Tracks users.
Carsten Otto
@C-Otto
rbndickson: I'd appreciate if you could raise this on the mailing list
