Hey guys, how do I allow atom-typescript to find packages I've installed with jspm?
It seems like something other people must be using, but I've been unable to find any documentation about it
Basarat Ali Syed
@basarat

Hey guys, how do I allow atom-typescript to find packages I've installed with jspm?

Lots of different ways:

  • Add the module definition to your tsconfig
  • Install into node_modules
  • Add a reference link from one of your files

hey guys ... I need help getting syntax highlighting in atom github flavored markdown with codefenced typescript ... I use monokai extended for a syntax theme, but anyway, I don't know how to enable typescript for gfm
probably in the wrong channel ... didn't know where else to go ... can anyone help?
Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Johannes Neugschwentner
@joehannes
thx, I'll have a look
Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Johannes Neugschwentner
@joehannes
@basarat I'm getting the feeling there was a misunderstanding ... I'm not actually in need of a typescript manual ... I want my Atom Editors markdown to syntax-highlight code-fenced typescript, which it simply doesn't
Basarat Ali Syed
@basarat
@joehannes the manual uses code fenced syntax highlighted markdown
blob
@joehannes is this what you are asking? ^
Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Johannes Neugschwentner
@joehannes
exactly!!!
I just added typescript to the code_fenced.cson of the grammar of the language-markdown package ... now I need to recompile it ... I think ...?!
Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Johannes Neugschwentner
@joehannes
thx 4 the link to your book btw ... seems like a great resource for a typescript beginner like me :)
got it, thx, it worked, just adding the ts definition to the grammar file and recompiling the plugin did the trick, now let's start, and thx for the link
Daniele Teti
@danieleteti
hi guys, I've just installed atom-typescript using apm, but opening a .ts file nothing works: no autocomplete, no suggestion... nothing. The file is correctly recognized as TypeScript (lowe pane say it), but nothing happend. Any hint?
Balázs Édes
@bali182
Do you have a tsconfig.json file in your project? I think that's a must have
Daniele Teti
@danieleteti
I'll try, thank you. IS the plugin able to generate it?
Daniele Teti
@danieleteti
still doesn't work... I've placed a tsconfig.js file (the one from "angularjs2 5minute quickstart") in the same folder of my app.ts file, and the behaviour is the same...
I'd like to use atom insted of VSCode, but I cannot get it to works
Philipp Knecht
@fopsdev
@danieleteti yes the plugin can create it for you. goto the command window and there you should find a "create tsconfig"
Daniele Teti
@danieleteti
Thank you @fopsdev but in the console there is no such item. Is my installation corrupt? How I can test it? (IN the packes menu I see "TypeScript"->"Build" and "TypeScript"->"Go to declaration"
Daniele Teti
@danieleteti
Ok, there was a problem. I simply deinstalled atom, reinstalled, installed atom-typescript and all works now. it's strange because no errors were raised. Now it works.

Jofairden
@Jofairden
hello
is it possible to add 'references' such as in Visual Studio ?
Jofairden
@Jofairden
go to decleration isn't doing anything
Basarat Ali Syed
@basarat
@gorateron use tsconfig.json :rose:
kpgarrod
@kpgarrod

why does this code give an error:

var count = markers.length;
var dv = count;
while (dv !== 0) {
dv = parseInt(dv/10, 10);
index++;
}

Argument of type 'number' is not assignable to parameter of type 'string'.at line 3 col 19 ???
David Driscoll
@david-driscoll
@kpgarrod parseInt expects a string, not a number.
Valentin Robert
@Ptival
@basarat I have an arguably too long function, and it seems at some point atom-typescript just gives up on checking it. is this to be expected?
also, often, Ctrl+Alt+L deletes some lines/characters and makes a mess :(
Valentin Robert
@Ptival
oh I guess not, the type thing was my fault for initializing the variable without a type and with undefined value
Jari Pennanen
@Ciantic
@basarat I remember you tried to bend Polymer months ago, I can't help to notice you've done some React stuff lately. What is your preference (if any) at the moment?
I would prefer React for front-end (because it can be type safe), but haven't yet had a chance to put it in practice.
I'm less certain about replacing less/css with a TS module, it sounds nice but it also sounds clunky when one wants to style children of some element etc.
Basarat Ali Syed
@basarat
@Ciantic react with type checking has been awesome

@tomduncalf
hey. wondering if anyone knows how to hide the atom-typescript status bar entirely?
it doesn't really show me anything that useful given that i am using linter and takes up a bit of vertical space
kpgarrod
@kpgarrod
It seems the latest trend with Angular development is to embed template code in the component definition (i.e. a typescript file). If I do that in Atom, I (understandably) don't get syntax highlighting etc. for the html. Is there any way to get that back?
Yuriy Yazlovytskyy
@yazla
Hi All, can anyone please advice on how disable output of the js files for each of my ts files?
Tom Duncalf
@tomduncalf
@yazla I am not sure if this is possible... I just exclude them from my git
Blake Embrey
@blakeembrey
depends on what you want to do, you can enable noEmit in the compiler options
