@Csani71_twitter could you please test the macOS build from here: https://github.com/UltraStar-Deluxe/USDX/releases/tag/v2020.4.0

Thanks. Where do I feed back, or even open tickets about issues?

Is anybody else having problems smoothly playing AV01-encoded video files? They have a considerably lower file size while maintaining similar video quality, that’s why I would like to used AV01 videos when they are available (newer videos on Youtube). However, the render USDX more or less unusable (unresponsive) atm

@basisbit
You'll need at least ffmpeg 4.2 for somewhat decend AV1 decoding performance. Also, AV1 decoding is done in CPU, there is no hardware decoder for it built in common end user graphics cards.
you could try h265 instead, if your GPU has hardware decoding for that.
Markus Böhning
@bohning
Ah, I see. So while I have ffmpeg 4.2.3_1, it will still be decoded using the CPU (which seems to be inadequate). I’m not talking about re-encoding, but about videos that already come AV01-encoded (or where I could choose between H264 and AV01, as in the above screenshot).
Okay, so this would only make sense when end user graphics cards include a hardware decover for AV01?
basisbit
@basisbit
well, there is this ongoing fight between openly licensed video codecs + mostly patent free (VP8, VP9, AV1) versus proprietary video codecs with strict licensing + patents (H264, H265). Usually, the graphics card manufacturers add hardware encoder + decoder for the proprietary codecs to the hardware quite quickly. For the open codecs, the hardware manufacturers seem to not put much effort into it.

@bohning
I see, thanks for the explanation

Anybody on here who’s an expert with CI/AppVeyor?

Does USDX understand when #MP3 and #VIDEO point to the same MP4 and optimize with a single play call?
basisbit
@basisbit
same file for #MP3 and #VIDEO does work. The media files will be parsed twice - (on windows) once the audio stream by bass, and once the video stream by ffmpeg. Your OS will cache the file, so that should be no problem unless you use network shares. If you use network shares, the simple solution is: do not use network shares.

@Defunkt_gitlab
Roger, thanks.

Currently, I receive the following error when trying to compile USDX on Mac:

avutil.pas(81,4) Error: User defined: Linked version of libavutil is not yet supported!

./configure says:

checking for libavutil... yes (-L/usr/local/Cellar/ffmpeg/4.3_1/lib)
checking version of libavutil... [56.51.100]

basisbit
@basisbit
@bohning can't you install ffmpeg 4.2 or older?
Markus Böhning
@bohning
@basisbit yes, somehow this is feasible via brew, I will look into it
Markus Böhning
@bohning
what is the latest ffmpeg version supported?
4.2?
Markus Böhning
@bohning
Okay, no issues with 4.2.3_1

@Backson
Hi, can someone tell me if Ultrastar Deluxe supports duett mode or not? I have the original singstar DVDs and could rip them successfully, but now I have two txt files and don't know if that will work. Anyone had this issue? Thanks!
Lars Drögemüller
@Backson
This thread seems to indicate that some version of Ultrastar can do it: https://www.mylittlekaraoke.com/forum/index.php?topic=36.0 but the thread is old. I think USDX supports that, maybe?
Markus Böhning
@bohning
@Backson yes, UltraStar Deluxe has been supporting duets for a long time. They have to be in a single text file though. You can use UltraStar Manager to create a duet from two individual tracks (or simply look up on usdb.animux.de to see if you can download the ready duet file)
Markus Böhning
@bohning
anybody on here that uses macOS Catalina and would like to test a new feature of UltraStar Manager?
basisbit
@basisbit
apparently not :-\

@AkaMisaki94
hello, pretty new here and don't know how to start ... Well, I tried to edit some songs in order to suit them better for my personal desire... unfortunately nothing has changed. On Windows I usually go to the folder songs, edit the .txt data and jump right into the game and see what has changed. Now I switched to Mac and it seems like once I inserted the song folders it's impossible to make any changes. Can somebody help me with that issue?
