Hi! I'm a new user. May I know how long I can gain access to Minicloud, like is there an expiry for my access to Minicloud? I can't seem to find such information in the Wiki.
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@leewp14_twitter if your request was approved, your initial access will last for 30 days. It may continue to be available for more time if we have resources to keep it running.
Lee Wei Peow
@leewp14_twitter
Will I be notified before termination?
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@leewp14_twitter yes, only if we are going to delete your account. If you do not rear anything back from us, you can continue to use it :)
Lee Wei Peow
@leewp14_twitter
Noted, thanks for the information provided @rpsene :)

Hi. Is it possible to have an instance being accessed over public IP for web purposes?
Igortorrente
@Igortorrente
@leewp14_twitter yes, I only need the floating IP of VM and the port to do the port-foward
Igortorrente
@Igortorrente
@leewp14_twitter but before, i need know what kind of content you want host.
Lee Wei Peow
@leewp14_twitter
@Igortorrente I did like to create a reverse proxy server based on nginx.
Igortorrente
@Igortorrente
@leewp14_twitter Sorry, but our terms of service doesn't allow host any kind of service (not even for development).
Lee Wei Peow
@leewp14_twitter
@Igortorrente So means anything that requires publicly open port, including for personal usage, is not allowed?
Igortorrente
@Igortorrente
@leewp14_twitter We do not host nor provide any kind of support for hosting services at Minicloud.

I haven't logged into MiniCloud for a long time - when I try the login page it wants a "Domain" now. Any idea what that is?
Igortorrente
@Igortorrente
@adamretter Hi Adam, we do not finish Minicloud maintenance yet, a email will be sent when all work be completed. Sorry for the inconvenience

@adamretter
@Igortorrente okay no problem, thanks. Do you have an idea of how long it will take?

@adalava
Hi, I would like to try FreeBSD on the minicloud. This O.S. requires a feature called "Huge Pages" or won't boot. Would be possible to enable such feature? Thanks!
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@adalava do you need it enabled in the host or is this an image/vm feature? Currently we do not offer frebsd at Minicloud.
adalava
@adalava
@rpsene, Huge Pages is a feature that should be enabled at host and vm at same time. There's a reference document for OpenStack: https://docs.openstack.org/nova/pike/admin/huge-pages.html
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@adalava we will investigate the effects of enabling it on our upcoming sprint. I will let you know the findings and the availability of this feature.

How to create a Power9 instance ?

Yuriy Yarosh
@yuriy-yarosh

For some reason choosing a power9 availability zone doesn't guarantee that a Power9 instance will be allocated... which was a bit frustrating, but I was lucky enough - after the fifth try I was able to allocate two Power9 nodes successfully.

Not great, but meh... it's OpenShift anyway, so understandable.

Yuriy Yarosh
@yuriy-yarosh
Nevertheless so far my Unicamp xp was somewhat more pleasing in comparison to osuosl.

@lcnzg
@yuriy-yarosh Hi, Yuriy. Sorry, but I wasn't able to reproduce your problem. I created 5 instances with the Power9 availability zone and all the instances allocated were Power9.
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@yuriy-yarosh bear in mind yhat only Ubuntu 18.04 is guarantee to be a P9 ready distro. Others may run on P9 but in a P8 compat mode. wh
What did you use?

@DavidARivkin
HI everyone. I am new to the MiniCloud, and having basic problems due to lack of documentation.
I have created an instance on Power8 using Fedora 29 (due to small size and usually good performance for Java) but unlike the tutorial video, I see no way to set ports for things like HTTP access to the JSP I want to create and perhaps more importantly, how the heck do you find out the default log-in ID (I assume root) and password set for any given instance/image? I tried Retrieve Password but it just says "The instance password has not yet been set".
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@DavidARivkin at Minicloud we limit the ports we make available, today only port 22 is open for ssh access. Before you create a VM, you must create or upload a public ssh-key. Then when you create a machine, you are going to access it via <fedora, ubuntu, debian, ubuntu, opensuse> as user, for instance: ubuntu@minicloud.parqtec.unicamp.br -p 40000
@DavidARivkin we do not provide any other access for running services at Minicloud, because it is not part of this offering.
@DavidARivkin you can do an ssh tunnel to access a different port, though.
David Rivkin, PhD
@DavidARivkin
Ok, but how (say via the MiniCloud console, do I like into the system (again Fedora 29 used). I did the whole key-pair creation and I can SSH to that port but I cant log-on. So why does the tutorial video show setting up HTTP ports etc. if they are not supported? That kind of sucks to be honest because testing my apps does require HTTPS and (HTTPS) to port 8080.
