Great news.

@JoelLinn
Does anyone know of a code generation tool for PPC64, like xbyak https://github.com/herumi/xbyak or vxil https://git.linaro.org/arm/vixl.git/about/ ?
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@JoelLinn I will poke some folks inernally. I’m not sure whether or not there is somethign similar. In the past I used to work on the Power SDK, where we implemed a Migration Advisor tool which aimed to help moving from x86_64 to ppc64le by suggesting source code fixes and improvements.

@mamonet_gitlab This FreeBSD image is not closed, it needs to be configured. For this, they created these tutorials: https://wiki.freebsd.org/powerpc/QEMU
After you follow it, you will be able to connect via ssh as you normally do with the other images on Minicloud.

too bad that there is no support for qemu-system-ppc64 support, on Windows 10 hosts

Иван Сердюк
@oceanfish81_twitter

I'm using that Debian image from @JoelLinn ..., just making a stress test...

@bencz , are you running under Qemu (on Windows 10, as I might suspect)?

Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@oceanfish81_twitter is there Qemu for Windows?
there is, learned something new today.

@oceanfish81_twitter let me check if we have someone looking at it, give me some days to reply.
I know we have folks working on LLVM for Power.

@oceanfish81_twitter is there Qemu for Windows?

Yes, I am able to run the "cloud" image (from @JoelLinn ) - I use https://qemu.weilnetz.de/w64/2020/qemu-w64-setup-20201124.exe

Иван Сердюк
@oceanfish81_twitter
I can confirm that it runs 32bit ppc and ppc64 machines - but for some reasons not allowing to boot pseries-2.8 and above (I had to boot 2.7). Also relic 32bit power distros boot "Mac99 " virtual machine.
It is interesting that the situation is that same on Linux hosts, to be fully awenest
I do not know the cause - but I could try to check something specific (like tracing, exporting logs, writing reports). If you could instruct me about what should I do
...I am dealing with gollvm issues, for some time - so yes, I would much appreciate if someone could join existing committers
POWER is one of few architectures that has predictive future evolution, in sense of both system-on-chip and system-on-board solutions - so supporting Go on POWER would be of help
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@oceanfish81_twitter GO is supported on Power. I forwared your ask about gollvm to the Toolchain management at IBM, stay tunned for a reply on this.

Probably you are talking about Bluemix cloud.
Thanks, I could be reached via emailing: ivan.serdyuk.1988@gmail.com

@cherrymui and @thanm are dealing with gollvm, from Google's side (x86_64 and Aarch64 are currently supported - and I am still interested to fight for i686 support)

@JoelLinn , why binfmt is required?
Иван Сердюк
@oceanfish81_twitter
@JoelLinn , how to reconfigure systemd services' timeouts (depending on a predictive performance of the hardware/server or Qemu) ?
Joel Linn
@JoelLinn
Binfmt for what? Building the ppc64 BE image? Thats if you dont run on ppc64, it allows to chroot into the image with qemu-user-static.
Иван Сердюк

Well, I don't imagine why installing pip assumes chroot'ing - but there was a warning, so that is why I asked

Alexandre Bencz
@bencz
@oceanfish81_twitter Yes, I use on Windows 10
Just change the ISO image file and the qcow2 file on qemu parameters

Where could I check the matrix of emulated/supported POWER instructions, for Qemu?

@ullbeking_gitlab I asked the developers of Qemu/KVM on Power to join this chat to help answerring some of the questions.
Иван Сердюк
@oceanfish81_twitter
thanks a lot, @rpsene
Daniel Henrique Barboza
@danielhb

@oceanfish81_twitter the TCG warnings you're seeing are related to KVM specific capabilities related to Spectre mitigation. The messages are annoying but are benign AFAIC. I'll check the code to be sure

About the MTTCG support for pSeries, the last status I heard about is that it works, but I haven't tested myself. If you find any problems running MTTCG let me know and/or post a bug in https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu and the community can look into it as well

Иван Сердюк
