@rpsene does the refrigeration issue persist? the are any prediction to solve that?
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@joaomas yep, full maintanance scheduled for tomorrow. If everything works, we should be back this weekend.

Good morning guys, I'm having trouble connecting remotely to the ubuntu desktop that I installed on the fly. The first attempt was with the NoMachine program, I was unsuccessful in the installation. The second attempt was with xrdp, I was able to install it and activate it, however at the time of connection on the remote desktop the following error: "It was not possible to connect to the remote desktop".

thank you in advance, sorry for the size of the message, I tried to describe the problem well.

I have already enabled ports on the TCP (3389) and (4000) protocols
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@wellingtonlopes57 it will not be possible.
although you can enable ports in your account; we block everything but 22.
we only offer ssh
nothing else
you can create an ssh tunnel though...
Alexandre Bencz
@bencz
@JoelLinn , did you build this Debian Images using a Power8 instructions ?
Joel Linn
@JoelLinn
The first one I built on LE using qemu(-static). (The scripts run apt in a chroot).
Once there is a running debian ppc64be system, one can build a new image without using cpu emulation
that should be a tad faster
where you trying to create a new one @bencz ?
Alexandre Bencz
@bencz
@JoelLinn I'm not trying ... actually, I don't know how to compile Debian and all of its dependencies ...
I believe that compiling Debian BE, with the gcc option "-mcpu = power8", can improve performance a little ...
After analyzing a lot of assembly code, by godbolt, here is an example of the comparisons I was making (https://godbolt.org/z/e1M7z444e), I found some interesting differences, in the opcodes and even in the structure of the generated code. it may be that we have an interesting performance gain, when compiling Debian BE using this gcc instruction

@bencz: building the whole OS from source will take time. Be prepared. 15+ years ago I tried something similar to what you are thinking, but with an x86 machine (Pentium IV at that time) and Gentoo (where building from source is the default option). After tuning the build process to my very specific version of processor and rebuilding the whole system, I can say to you that I didn't notice any difference in the usual day-to-day performance (e-mail, web browsing, etc.). Things may have changed, of course, as this was a long time ago, but my educated guess is that you should worry about this only for specific applications that really require more performance or for libraries widely used in the system, such as glibc.
Joel Linn
@JoelLinn
@bencz ppc64(be) debian still supports old powermacs, and probably even playstation 3 and xbox360 with custom kernels.... If someone wants newer instructions they will just say use ppc64le I guess. IIRC there where quite some discussions when they made the switch to require newer power arch at some point...
And indeed no source was compiled at all when I generated the images. Binaries are all in the debian ports repo, so all the script does is first unpack a predefined minimal set of debs from the repo and then chroot into it and install the rest using the apt it unpacked manually before

@joaomas
Is it possible import .ova in enviroment?
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@joaomas nope!
you may need to convert to qcow or raw
mirabilos
@mirabilos
hi, when can I expect to hear back from yesterday’s request for access?
mirabilos
@mirabilos
ok, I heard back, but I can’t figure out how to make the ssh port available
ah, it’s not in the machine config…
Rafael Sene
@rpsene
@mirabilos ssh <USER>@minicloud.parqtec.unicamp.br -p <PORT>

I received notice about "Your account has expired", the account was recreated last month. What is the e-mail/procedure to active this account again? I continue to access my instance created there normally.

Hi,
I have been trying for 2 hours now to access a RHEL VM via ssh and the compute rule for the ssh port, but w/o success :-(
I have tried two different images (CentOS 7 and 8), also tried rebooting and also added a security policy especially for ssh, but I only get a time-out. Does anybody have any hints for me? Of course, I have read the wiki thoroughly. In the past (Feb 21), it worked for me.
Alexandre Bencz
@bencz
What port number you are using ?
Did you have enabled the ssh port on network configuration on minicloud ?
emp-mbo
@emp-mbo
Thank you for your Feedback! I have found my mistake in the mean time: I had enabled ssh port 22 in the security group but selected "secuity group" in the field Remote, not CIDR.
My fault :-(
Thanks again for your help!
Rafael Sene

Sorry I had a bit of a congestion and had to delete the message.

What about if I continue to use the VPS? Does this 30 days only policy apply for everyone?

Rafael Sene
@rpsene
the general rule is 30 days for everyone; if can request for more time and we will evaluate based on our capacity vs demand.
