I just listened to https://changelog.com/jsparty/53 and VisBug sounds really interesting.

Well, I'm a little distracted making gingerbread men with my kids right now but, sure, I have several thoughts:
  • more videos, please (I watched the keynote in the wiki after)
  • was it you or someone else who was saying that design tools don't have any hierarchy?
  • Is it possible to move the floating thing on the left (and what's it called?)? The toolbar.

  • Glad to see you're using Gitter. Never heard of Spectrum but it seems interesting.
  • I <3 vim
  • love the signal vs noise concept

@argyleink I guess that's what's top of mind. Thanks for asking.

Awesome to hear that more videos are coming. I'd recommend starting with this thread from Open Source Design: https://discourse.opensourcedesign.net/t/free-as-in-freedom-tools-for-designer-dev-communication-and-creation/316

That thread might not be exactly what you're talking about but you can get a sense of how aligned you are with that group's goals. I suspect they'd like the podcast episode I listened to. The philosophy behind what you're up to.

The demo wasn't bad but the philosophy is what's most compelling. The vision.

I'm not quite done with the second podcast but complexity has come up in both and I'm wondering if people on either episode are familiar with this quote from Tony Hoare:
"There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult."

@argyleink I put my nine year old in front of VisBug, as suggested on the podcast, to let her troll her school's website. You should hear her cackle.

stoked that you're helping me reach other folks with similar mindsets and goals. and stoked that you're more interested in the goal than the implementation. it's a harder thing to share with people, less tangible. glad you're compelled by it as well, and excited to dig into this group and find mutual areas to attack.
also, did your 9 yr old have any usability issues with visbug or feature requests!? <3

Heh, she only used VisBug for a couple minutes. She accidentally hit the back button and lost everything. But she has a good attitude and did it again.

I took a picture of the modified school website (it doesn't usually say "never eat soggy waffles") and showed it to her big sister and her friends as I walked them to rock climbing. You might have three more customers.
Oh, spell check might be a nice feature. I had to help her fix "waffuls".

I'd be so pumped if the user base was kids lol
Spelling, I want(ed) that as well, see #43.. I closed it because it's there, buts it's not real time. When you blur the textarea it'll show spelling (I think that was the UX..?). I looked a little deeper and it was looking not worth it, but maybe I didn't look in the right places! I do think Google docs style spelling would be awesome.

It's just something I noticed. If I'm around I can help her with the spelling.

I added a picture of the trolled school website to that spell check issue.
