Verdata.mulbwas a very old file
It was removed in 2003 or 2004
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 01:38
That explains why my ML client doesn't have one!
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 02:07
@ZaneDubya There are no patching files, everything is just directly manipulated
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 02:16
Ok, that answers my remaining lingering question. Thanks jeff.

Np
Gump.def has an extended language that defines a lot of the client side gumps

Wrote a quick and dirty parser for it here:

@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 03:28
verdata most probably existed due to dial up times :D
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 03:29
It's the same data either eay
Way*
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 03:29
but very small sized
it was like 3-4mb the last time i remember in 2004
maybe it was easier to patch single file
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 03:30
They don't send the full mul down
They send a patch and edit the mild in place, same as verdata as far as data goes
Edit the mul.... Stupid auto correct
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 03:31
strange
why did the verdata and mapdif, staticdif files existed
exist*
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 03:32
Laziness? Perhaps easier to make patches, mapdif makes sense cause they can reuse the same mul and have a slight difference for 2 maps
Same with stadif
Verdata probably existed for easier internal version twsting
Testing*

@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 03:33
lol
but it did very well back then
people used it for their servers
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 03:33
That wasn't their intention
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 03:33
yes i know
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 03:33
And quite possibly the reason it was removed
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 03:34
ea did serious mistakes back then
like releasing uo demo :D
with full copy of the server
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 03:34
That was well before, also that wasn't EA
That was Origin

sometimes I can get random crashes while opening someone else's paperdoll by double clicking
like "UInt32 is too small or big for this" etc.
i will screencap next time

Aug 17 2015 13:44
Please do, and open an issue. Publish the top couple of entries of the call stack as well!
I wish we had a more robust error reporting system that would tell me the values of the various variables on the call stack.

There is not!
Deniz Sökmen

Aug 17 2015 16:24
god, this project is seriously promising
i can't imagine the things can be done with a custom client
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:25
What client has midi files?
As of ML, they're all MP3s.
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:26
veeery old client :D

On another note, the new C# 6.0 syntax is beautiful
            var handler = SelectionCleared;

            handler?.Invoke(this, EventArgs.Empty);
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:26
lol no, no thanks.
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:26
lol :D
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:26
I'll work on ML until it's done, and then think about what's next.
@jeffboulanger What's the ?. syntax for?
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:27
same as
if(handler != null)
{
    handler.Invoke(this, EventArgs.Empty);
}
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:27
it does nullcheck
for you
like in swift
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:27
it's pretty rad
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:28
So handler?.Invoke(this, EventArgs.Empty); would do nothing if handler was null?
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:28
yeah
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:28
also, you can do this

        public ReactiveCommand ClearSelectionCommand
        {
            get;
        }
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:28
That's pretty neat.
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:28
no private set;
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:28
Because private set is implied?
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:28
but still set it in the ctor or private context
ya
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:28
nice!
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:28
so much crazy shit
wanna see something insane though? Lemme write it up, this is fucking nuts, and i dont like it
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:29
:D
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:29
lol @jeffboulanger You know me, I like explicit code (don't even like var) but that syntax is very clean, and that's a good thing.
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:29
i love var
i use to be liek you ;)
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:29
yeah i like var too
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:29
then i learned that var makes everything super clean
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:29
auto in c++11
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:30
and tbh, havent really needed to see the variable type
cause of the name of the variable, usually matches
Mobile mobile;
for example
;)
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:30
a good naming notation would make everything clear already
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:30
its not even that
i dont believe in comments in code really (there are exceptions)
but code should be self documenting
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:31
have you read the book clean code?
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:31
@jeffboulanger Another area we disagree on; but you wouldn't be able to tell from my code. I need to spend more time documenting.
;)
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:32
struct Pair<T>(T first, T second)
{
  public T First { get; } = first;
  public T Second { get; } = second;
  // Equality operator ...
}
thats valid code now :/
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:33
neat
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:33
no
lame
;)
@ZaneDubya I have this theory that if you have to document it, it can probably be written better.
and in my own code that has been proven to be true 99% of the time
Expression functions drive me crazy too
public int Add(int a, int b) => a + b;
thats valid syntax
:(
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:35
i think it's syntatic sugar
practical
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:35
its annoying for a few reasons
but 1 of them is, its not debuggable
thats my biggest issue with a lot of the sugar
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:36
yeah if it's not debuggable, it's bad
visual studio's one of the biggest plus is debugging
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:38
its amazing
2015 is even more amazing
speaking of
@ZaneDubya are you on 2015?
its got really really good built in performance profiling and whatnot
intellitrace
Memory Leak debuging is sooooo much easier now too
I wonder if development on twitch would be a popular thing to watch
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:41
@jeffboulanger I am not but I assume that XNA would install as easily on 2015 as it would on 2013.
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:41
You might have to edit the vsix
its probably hard coded to target 2013
unless someone updated
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:42
You're on the right track - the original install targets 2010, and someone updated the VS component (which I assume is the visx?) that adds XNA compat to VS 2013.
Something to look into.
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:43
its an xml element in the vsix
you just add the new vs version
literally that easy
i can do it later
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:44
i am on 2015 btw
yeah you just tweak version in vsix file and it works
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:44
mind uploading your vsix's somewhere?
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:46
all you have to do is to open .vsix file with winzip
yeah it's just a zip
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:47
@denizsokmen That's for 2015? or 2013? or 2010?
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:47
ya
ive done it a few times with 2010 ones, for 2013
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:47
it's [12.0, ]
every version after 12 inclusive
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:47
great!
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:48
i'm getting i7 4790k tomorrow
excited from now :D
it will be a huge leap after core2duo e8400
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:49
hahaya
i wish i could replace my desktop with a laptop
but i would need a laptop that can play games
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:50
yeah
i hate gaming laptops
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:50
and those usually are to heavy
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:50
for obvious reason
i just want a programming laptop with a quadcore cpu and can play some non-demanding games like dota, csgo etc.
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:50
Hey, that's my processor!
:D
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:50
i think macbook pro would be exact fit for me
@ZaneDubya are you happy with it :D
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:52
lol of course ;)
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:52
i wont even OC it for a few years
it wouldnt need OCing with that frequency already
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:52
Haha I'm pretty sure I can't do that. imac.
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:53
:(
you lucky one
imac
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:53
But it's fast enough that - honestly - I don't see the need to replace it for 5+ years.
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:53
i would kill to get it :D
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:53
oh man! the 5k screen is amazing!
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:53
@ZaneDubya You have a better gpu on your macbook?
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:53
he has imac
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:54
Mine has the crap intel onboard one
ah
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:54
@jeffboulanger I think I have a intel 5000/maybe 6000 on my air as well.
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:54
how do you run ksp on that?
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:54
I don't.
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:54
hd 6000 series is SERIOUSLY good
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 16:54
oh
ksp wont run on more than 15 fps on my macbook
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:55
In the imac I have a amd r9 m25x 4gb, but I don't know how that compares to anything. I think it would compare favorably to a middle of the line desktop gpu.
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:55
@ZaneDubya do you have a job?
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:55
@denizsokmen I'm in law school.
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 16:56
wow
what's with the programming interest?
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 16:58
Everyone needs a hobby!
@jeffboulanger That sucks, sorry. Honestly, I feel like that game could use some optimization, but they're hamstrung by using unity.
Not that unity is bad in any way, shape, or form, but relying on a general purpose engine robs you of the opportunity to speed things up.
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 17:01
i dislike unity
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 17:02
I think it's a great project and it really speeds up the development process for a lot of people. There are amazing projects out there that use unity. KSP being one of them. But it's not for me; I like writing my own engine.
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 17:03
same here
It makes me sad to see great projects being made with unity
because I know that it will be slow as shit without a proper hardware
you really need to work too much to put a general purpose engine in an optimized place
okay it speeds up the dev. phase
but I think it should be used for prototyping for large projects
I mean I would never ever code an MMO with unity
but at least I would prototype my game in it to see how it works
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 17:32
@ZaneDubya Unity 5 is amazing, HUGE performance increase, and KSP is being moved to Unity 5, but they had to refactor a lot, cause Unity 5 had a lot of breaking changes
Here is a perfect example of the performance increase https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgpN8CMBfzU
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 17:33
That's outstanding!
Kudos to the unity team.
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 17:34
Ya, there is a blog post about why their rendering pipeline was so bad
and what they did to solve it
its a 3 parter
my favorite part is the image
Jeff Boulanger
@jeffboulanger
Aug 17 2015 17:39
example of how a good rendering pipeline visually should look
pretty funny
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 18:04
damn i fiddled with git commands
now i broke my remote :D
Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 18:58
@jeffboulanger I'm reading through the blog you posted...
There are areas where code is weird; there are places that no one quite remembers how or why they work; there are decisions done many years ago that don’t quite make sense anymore, and no one had time to fix yet.
Amen.

Aug 17 2015 19:38
yeah same problem is here as well
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 19:41
@ZaneDubya btw, I found the reason why I couldn't see tiles above 0x4000 ID
because the index was AND'ed with 0x3FFF :P
since the new tiledata has 0x10000 items
changing it to 0xFFFF
InjectionDev
@InjectionDev
Aug 17 2015 19:44
i still work for some games like LoL as hobbyist, but now im thinking about came back to UO thanks to @ZaneDubya :D
he will make the new Krrios client, powered by .Net ;D

Zane Wagner
@ZaneDubya
Aug 17 2015 19:45
@denizsokmen Sounds good. Again, keep things separate so that we can load UOP/MUL handling branches at runtime as necessary. Thanks!

I pressed ESC after inputting my password incorrectly, an old habit from original client
and it recorded my 'ESC'
so I was trying to log in with an username suffixed with ESC charactre
l..lol

Ok, I can handle ESC characters better.
And try to add better error handling for that exception.
Hopefully that will fix your error :)

ahhh the object information packet is different in newer clients..
that's why I can't see the new items
runuo thinks I am on client 6.x.x.x which is old
and sends the old packet by AND'ing 0x3FFF
anding the itemID
okay that makes sense
and the new packet also sends if the object is Multi
because the itemid can exceed 0x4000
which the old packet thinks >=0x4000 is a Multi item

@ZaneDubya that socket exception should be ignored

I just had Win10 bug out and become completely unusable
Jeff Boulanger

@ZaneDubya it means the socket was closed, either from the server or the client, but the callback was already being fired.

First time since June that has happened.
@jeffboulanger Gotcha - good to know, thanks.
@denizsokmen I'm pushing a quick fix for the esc bug you noticed. Should be up in a minute.

by the way I don't know how to keep things separate while editing lots of files due to .uop adaptation

.uop loading is just a small part of it

I suppose I could have programmed the resource classes to make it easier to do that. And it shouldn't be your responsibility to come up with a way to plug in different resource handlers.
Fair enough, when you're done I'll just manually break things up.
Keep at it1

I think it's safe to merge now when things are working
because a huge commit might render everything I did useless :D

@denizsokmen Let me makes sure I understood you - your branch loads the UOP resources perfectly and is ready to be integrated now?
Because if that's the case, I will make sure not to touch the resources namespace on my end and work on integrating it this weekend :)
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 20:29
my branch CAN load UOP resources and it loaded everything correctly so far
the map files, art data, gumps
and it won't even affect you because you are using ML which has no uop
most probably I will be dealing with uop bugs since I'm the one testing with the newest uo :D
Deniz Sökmen
@denizsokmen
Aug 17 2015 20:35
by the way, you shouldn't be spending time integrating my commits
because my branch is up-to-date with yours
i regularly rebase my branch
it 'shouldnt' cause any merge conflicts

I would want to have UOP functionality in the main client if it's ready to be integrated thought.
