PlayWindowGumpResolution in the settings ini file
set it to the same resolution as your game window

Is it fundamentally hard to change graphics API to monogame?
Are XNA and monogame essentially different?

yes
at aa shader level
the C# api is relatively the same
shaders have to be written in opengl or cg shaders i believe
Monogame has some oddities too, I have a friend that took a relatively basic xna game he made, and to this day hasnt finished converting it to monogame because of some of the issues he ran into

for him its weird phone related issues
resolution and keyboard and such
but i'd suspect that the general conversion issues aren't limitted to phone stuff ;)

Is getting null exceptions due to some frames are missing from the animations a normal thing? I mean is it reported before?

Not sure off hand, is it an animation with some missing frames, or missing animations entirely?
