hey man, do you have any opinions on using Jest over Mocha?
oh just noticed you mentioned what I was doing with actions
In Base, I'm using actions for any user strigger interactions (clicks etc)

Huh thats interesting about PP, I heard nick say you guys where reviving it which is cool. Yeah don't get me started on wp or cms's man, I think the model is broken. I've had to build a few wp sites here for clients and maintain some others, the security part is awful - for the most part it seems to be plugins from what I can tell using the wpscan gem. I try not to use any and build themes from scratch / write any functionality I need - security by obscurity haha. RIpping out phpmyadmin from the server helps too and disabling passwords, massive point of failure. I've got us using craft CMS for content work here now and I've got a few in keystone too.
Yeah man, I'm going on break for a few weeks but maybe we should hook up a chat with nick and see if I can help you guys out with PP - I'd be keen to lend a hand
In terms of testing I actually haven't written any tests with Jest yet, I have my api and database stuff all running with mocha and istanbul for coverage and using codeship for continuous integration
so I've yet to properly test my react components, wanting to refactor them a bit first. I will probably go with jest though as it seems much easier

Oh yea I'm the same about WP. People build products on it all the time, but it really isn't suitable for it. That thing is riddled with so many security holes. The plugin system probably introduces a bunch of other issues. Yea I'm not a big fan of CMS's in general either. They are good for a lot of uses, we need something at Joan where we have more control over features and security when building out product ideas.
will keep you posted on PP, thats one example of when not to use WP to build your site....

Yeah, I would love to move towards something like https://prismic.io/ but that was self hosted for managing content

and sweet thanks for the tips, i've actually just done a bunch of client side tests with Mocha, just testing out the stores for the moment and not the Components. I'm planning to use JSDom for component testing eventually.... it might be useful to use just one testing framework across both server and lcient, but can see how it pans out...
oh yea right, I'll take a look
Theo
@theolampert
Jun 16 2015 09:56
yeah good points, I'll look into testing the front end further

Theo
@theolampert
Jun 16 2015 09:58
yeah I'd like to see how that integrates with react native
I'm still not sure on react native and if I'd be better off picking up swift
the syntax is pretty readable for js devs I think
and has some nice features that js doesn't
you used to do a lot of objective-c right?
Antonio de Perio
@adeperio
Jun 16 2015 10:00
yea im keen to explore it though, that whole JS in native is a carrot i'm a sucker for :)
Theo
@theolampert
Jun 16 2015 10:00
hahaha yeah for sure
Antonio de Perio
@adeperio
Jun 16 2015 10:00

Jun 16 2015 10:00
I've been playing with go a little bit lately too
Antonio de Perio
@adeperio
Jun 16 2015 10:01
ive got a few native apps that i'd like to tinker on at some point
ahh right no way, what do you think of go?
Theo
@theolampert
Jun 16 2015 10:01
it's a bit hard for me to pick up, but I really like how nearly everything you need is bundled with it
most of the packages seem well written too
which can be a problem with npm
lots of abandonware around
Antonio de Perio
@adeperio
Jun 16 2015 10:02
yea i hear bits and pieces about it.... it's supposed to be quite a good serverside option
yea
what have you been using it for? or ust something youve been playing with?
Theo
@theolampert
Jun 16 2015 10:02
yeah I just put together a basic rest api
to see how it works
Antonio de Perio
@adeperio
Jun 16 2015 10:03

Theo
@theolampert
Jun 16 2015 10:03
I'd be keen to use it with node, theres a few things around to let them talk to eachother
Antonio de Perio
@adeperio
Jun 16 2015 10:03
like c hooks?
Theo
@theolampert
Jun 16 2015 10:04
yeah
Antonio de Perio
@adeperio
Jun 16 2015 10:04
or REST interfaces
ahh ok
that woudl be cool
I really like using Node for web stuff, but i'd imagine at some point if I need more powerful processing, woudl be cool to marry up Node with something like Go or Scala....
Theo
@theolampert
Jun 16 2015 10:05
yeah I worked with a startup here who's api was written in scala
I was just doing front end for them
Antonio de Perio
@adeperio

Antonio de Perio
@adeperio
Jun 16 2015 10:06
ahh yea, i know, shudder, I'm not much of a fan of Java, but I hear good things about Scala.... keen to learn a little more about it
Theo
@theolampert
Jun 16 2015 10:06
