    @josh-hadley
    @SolarAquarion thanks — I’ll see if a switch to ufolib2 is feasible.

    things seems to point that ufonormalize isn't particularly well developed
    it's basically maintenenceware
    Josh Hadley
    @josh-hadley
    Right, that does seem to be the case

    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1793018#c8 and fedora is retiring ufonormalize as well
    https://github.com/fonttools/ufoLib2/blob/master/docs/source/index.rst it seems defcon can be used as well, but i don't think so since there's no need for those features in the afdko
    it should be easy enough by just looking at things

    @josh-hadley where is ufolib used
    Solomon Choina
    @SolarAquarion
    found it lmao

    @SolarAquarion
    @josh-hadley so you pushed a patch to make it work for 3.9 that works too, lmao

    Right, after some discussion I chose to just update it as the alternatives probably wouldn’t have worked (or it would be a big pain to make them work in AFDKO). We’ll work on getting a new release of ufoNormalizer out soon and get AFDKO updated as well.

    @SolarAquarion
    @josh-hadley porting to ufolib2 is more of a long term project

    @benkiel
    @SolarAquarion just popping in to say that ufonormalize isn't maintenceware

    @josh-hadley
    On the same topic: I've updated the develop branch of AFDKO to use the new ufoNormalizer. We'll probably do a pre-release containing that soon, followed by a regular release if all goes well.

    @benkiel thanks
