if we are struggling for insidey space in the centre i can probably get us space at cybercom (Kamppi), but to be honest i always prefer not being in an office.
Ivan Yurchenko
@ivanyu
Once, I've written a toy thing in scala.js and scala.rx
http://ivanyu.github.io/life-scalajs/
can give a short talk about it
Otto Chrons
@ochrons
Scala Native coming: http://www.scala-native.org
(and no, it has nothing to do with React Native :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
@ivanyu nice implementation, would be great if you talk about it.
@ochrons any idea when the coming-soon arrives for that? ScalaDays Berlin, or?
Otto Chrons
@ochrons
it'll be announced at ScalaDays NY
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
excellent, that's in a cupla weeks or so.
Otto Chrons
@ochrons
same presentation will be given in Berlin as well
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
hopefully some of the various talks from ScalaDays will be youtubered /vast. - if i was rich, or my bosses weren't stuck in a j2ee-timewarp, i would go to berlin... there's an interesting "meta-programming" talk by Noel Welsh it seems http://event.scaladays.org/scaladays-nyc-2016#!#schedulePopupExtras-7575
maybe because I'm getting old and already learned structured and oo-programming paradigms, but thinking in FP ways, and Reactive Programming, has been the most difficult thing.
"That's two things!". well yeah. http://martinfowler.com/bliki/TwoHardThings.html
@ochrons is in there too - he's everywhere :)

@akauppi

Positively surprised by the action while I've been missing.

"insidey-stuff like projectors and sober chat, with outsidey stuff like shivering on a restaurant-terrace wearing t-shirts and drinking chilled beer..."

:clap: Looks like the definition of William K. to me (but then again, when a meetup comes near, anything looks like William K. to me.....)

dylan drummond
@murmelsson
William K... nostalgia for the old days... when i was last there, smoking inside was still allowed...
Asko Kauppi
@akauppi
We can try. :)
I'll bring a laptop and HDMI cable.
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
ok let's see how we go... projectors and sober chat tend not to be the most important aspects of a WilliamK session, let's not stress ourselves unnecessarily :)
Asko Kauppi
@akauppi
Suits me. But I'll bring them anyhow. They want to attend.

"My laptop is a social drinker... but he's very sociable..."
Interested in a joined meetup with Helsinki JUG, in Aug/Sep? We do have some other plans, too.... Zalando headquarters probably won't be ready by early Aug so that slot is still up for taking.
Otto Chrons
@ochrons
anyone going to Scala World in Sep?
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
Changing employer in 3 weeks time, will maybe test the HR water with a ScalaWorld request.
The Lake District is a really nice place for hillwalking.
Otto Chrons
@ochrons
I booked my ticker to SW already :)
got extra 10% discount thanx to Boris and the #brexit gang :trollface:

Democracy is the dictatorship of the majority of idiots 😀
I suppose Manchester is nearest int'l airport, though i'd likely go to Glasgow then bus or train south.
But need to find out first if my new boss has a travel/conference budget for use by the minions
Otto Chrons
@ochrons
there's a direct flight to MAN
we could get a house from Airbnb
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
Or bring mountain-tents.
Asko Kauppi
@AskoKauppi_twitter
Hey all,
next meetup looks like Sep 6-8th, together with JUG at Elisa.
There'd be one Java (JVM) based presentation, and one from us. We used to have a backlog but my memory does not serve me (pagefault). Where might the backlog be?
Would you like to discuss / vote / volunteer here - or add more suggestions as a PR ;)
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
Sbt would be interesting but on the other hand if non-scalites in the meeting something less complex and more "scala is great" might be more appropriate. Like the Types...or even how Scala types relate to their poor java ancestors?
Otto Chrons
@ochrons
sneak peak on my new project, not yet publicly available :) https://beetta.scalafiddle.io/
https://beetta.scalafiddle.io/list shows some fiddles that are saved there
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
@ochrons preddy cool, like an online-repl. "it's so much more than a repl, pearls before swine!" ... but yeah, still preddy cool.
Otto Chrons
@ochrons
anyone going to ScalaWorld next month? (besides me :) )
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
got no chance, dog ate my homework / dog didn't eat childminding duties / dog hasn't solved the bleeding Barnes-Hut Simulation assignment from Scala Center for me yet. Stupid imaginary dog.
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
Barnes-Hut Simulation solved. Maybe i'll ask Scala Center to modify the "effort estimate" from 3 hours to 20 hours, or maybe they don't realise that most programmers get it done through the "code...fail..swear loudly... recode... fail"-Iteration
Otto Chrons
@ochrons
:D
dylan drummond
@murmelsson
"mikä on kun ei taidot riittää, mikä on kun ei onnistu..." ... to get from 45/63 to 63/63 i had to solve 9 bugs, which took about 12 hours, and in the process i created another bug, which took another hour to solve... when you don't have talent, the only solution is sisu (and swearing, and recoding)
