@nitikagarw
Hi team,
I have recently started contributing to akka/akka repo and need some help with local development.
Do we have any tips/tricks to get the tests working from IntelliJ IDEA?
@raboof:matrix.org Did share a link to some notes((https://github.com/akka/akka/pull/29868/files) but then I have more errors/warnings.
If not via IntelliJ, It would be great if I could get some help to run the scala App via terminal(might be a naive question, apologies, new to sbt)
For more context, I am working on akka/akka#29913
Patrik Nordwall
@patriknw
@nitikagarw i think most of us use sbt to run tests. testOnly <full pkg and class name> or with wildcards testOnly *.Foo
To run App or main class you can use runMain <class name> or test:runMain
Nitika Agarwal
@nitikagarw
Hi @patriknw Thanks for replying, not sure if I got it correct. I tried like below but I could not see anything printing on console from my test case. I do have a very simple System.out.println("hello akka!"); as the first line inside the main function.
sbt:akka-docs> testOnly jdocs.stream.operators.sourceorflow.MapError

package jdocs.stream.operators.sourceorflow;

import akka.actor.ActorSystem;

public class MapError {

  public static void main(String[] args) {

    // #map-error

    final ActorSystem system = ActorSystem.create("mapError-operator-example");
    System.out.println("hello akka!");
  }
}
Patrik Nordwall
@patriknw
That is a main class, not a test. Try test:runMain instead.

Thanks a lot @patriknw ! It works.
Team, please review: akka/akka#29913

Hi all and happy 2021. I have a question regarding akka docs. How are the images in https://doc.akka.io/docs/akka/current/typed/interaction-patterns.html generated? I'd like to create one that looks consistent but don't know how.
raboof
@raboof:matrix.org

looks like @patriknw made those - perhaps with keynote?
Johan Andrén
@johanandren
Yeah, pretty sure they’re made with keynote on MacOS. We don’t have a good cross platform strategy, so keeping diagrams consistent is best effort I’m afraid.
If you are on MacOS I think we can share a template keynote doc to start from/copy paste shapes colours etc.

https://doc.akka.io/docs/akka/current/persistence-journals.html
Is well designed and can be implemented on lindorm(https://help.aliyun.com/product/172543.html
)'s internal stream model.
Seems I can take advantage of the storage if it supports row-level TTL.

I had a question on akka/akka regarding the APIs on http headers being a bit too sealed. To do it right I'd end up having to become a dev, and fork akka.

Hi, one query, let's suppose we have multiple flows attached one after another, so should we have supervision strategy attached with each flow ? Or its okay to have only one on the main flow ?

@Casperlet
Hi, I'm reading Akka Platform guide. I get a question about CQRS. Why should entity ShoppingCart have a command "Get"? I think "Get" is a query method, so it should move into read model.
I think CQRS is a pattern, not architecture. So, it fits for one BC, not the whole system. Anything external wants to get the entity state, it should ask the read model, not the write model. But the guide shows the entity ShoppingCart returns its state by the command "Get".
Abbey
@Casperlet
In CQRS, command in the write model changes the state of entity, triggers some events, but returns nothing. query in the read model asks the entity to get replies, but changes nothing. Entity gets eventually consistent by read model consuming the events published from write model.

FYI -- Olivier Nouguier is presenting about his Pravega Alpakka connector tomorrow at our monthly Pravega.io meetup: https://community.cncf.io/events/details/cncf-pravega-community-presents-pravega-community-meeting-1/

Olivier currently has a new PR open to Alpakka to add Pravega Key-Value Tables support to his Akka connector: akka/alpakka#2651 ... I believe he plans to discuss this latest work also.

@Seetaramayya

Hello Alpakka team,

When I am trying to build docs/previewSite locally in my computer for alpakka, I am getting following error messages

  • google-cloud-pub-sub-grpc/src/main/protobuf: warning: directory does not exist.
  • google-cloud-pub-sub-grpc/src/main/proto: warning: directory does not exist.
  • google-common/src/main/protobuf: warning: directory does not exist.

What am I doing wrong? From where can I get these proto files

raboof
@raboof:matrix.org
[m]
@Seetaramayya: those warnings are harmless: the plugin can pick up proto files from those directories, but doesn't, since this project takes the proto files from a dependency jar. it's just a bit loud about it.
