Ah finally some sort of breakthrough, thanks @jberzy . I had been looking at configuring the endpoints in the portal. I changed the http port 80 to the akka.net port it is listening on. and this worked. Worked in that, it certainly received something, but on the listener, it throw an error with "Dropping message [Akka.Actor.ActorSelection] for non-local-recipient". But this is fine, this is due to the server not being able to communicate back to a publicly available IP (which is the client).

@jberzy
cool

@rogeralsing
anyone used Serilog + elastic search with Akka.NET here? need some help http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30594051/elasticsearch-with-serilog
Mystere
@Mystere
Is there any kind of monitoring dashboard for Akka.net services?
Bartosz Sypytkowski
@Horusiath
@Mystere quite popular is the combination of Akka.Monitoring.StatsD plugin with statsd monitoring server and Grafana for charts display
Roger Johansson
@rogeralsing
im playing with elasticsearch and kibana right now
Mystere
@Mystere
@Horusiath - interesting.. seems quite primitive though at first glance.. maybe there's more to it.. Was hoping for something more like Netflix vector
Bartosz Sypytkowski
@Horusiath
are you talking about grafana ?
Mystere
@Mystere
Mystere
@Mystere
grafana looks nice, but looks like it has some of the same problems that cactus does.. the numerical information is not presented well, and while the graphs are prettier than cactus it's still kind of generic.
Andrew Skotzko
@skotzko
@annymsMthd thanks! it was good seeing you guys, thanks for coming to the meetup
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
@rodrigovidal @trbngr @shersh thanks guys, glad you liked it!
@Mystere Hystrix looks interesting. Right now we support StatsD, as @Horusiath mentioned
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
@ianbarry would it be helpful if @skotzko and I put together some DevOps videos for that sort of issue?
we've been getting asked about that sort of stuff from a lot of folks who've just started using Akka.Remote / Akka.Cluster
Ian Barry
@ianbarry
@Aaronontheweb That would be awesome if you could do that. I felt the barrier to entry on getting started with akka.net was really low and the petabridge bootcamp has greatly helped with that. And then I came across remote and clustering between machines as being a bit more of a barrier, when getting down and dirty and trying to apply it to what I needed, with any examples pointing at localhost on the same machine. Thanks! :smile:
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
@ianbarry yeah, I know what you mean. The DevOps overhead for any applications that depend on sockets rather than HTTP goes up considerably
I had to learn a lot of that stuff the hard way and it really sucked
I'd rather make it easy for everyone else :p
Ian Barry
@ianbarry
@Aaronontheweb awesome, thank you and I'm sure many others will be grateful too! I'm kinda feeling this pain at the moment. But I am now seeing the light :)

@rogeralsing
has anyone posted this yet? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LD4vIyZyOuI

Thomas Lazar
@thomaslazar
sigh trying to get a simple console program with akka running in osx with visual studio code
always telling me that i don't have the akka dependency installed… but i have

@4deeptech

Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
@thomaslazar yeah, the Mono end-user experience is a little sharp around the edges atm
@rogeralsing running those changes under the multi-node tests ATM
going to close your PR and send in a new one - removed another piece of code (that was unused) within RemoteActorRefProvider where we did the same thing
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
@annymsMthd looks like something is up with both of the consistent hash routing multi-node specs
cant get either to pass now
Joshua Benjamin
@annymsMthd
hmm
is it a consistent failure?
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
yeah
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
@stefansedich @annymsMthd would either one of you mind reviewing the flurry of PRs I opened up? #1032, #1031, #1030, #1028
that's all that's left for releasing v1.0.2 today
Stefan Sedich
@stefansedich
sure @Aaronontheweb
@Aaronontheweb looks like #1031 is the only one I can approve atm, you happy for me to merge it?
or did you want to wait for #1030
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
go ahead and do #1031
Stefan Sedich
@stefansedich
great
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
just resolved a merge conflict for #1030
Stefan Sedich
@stefansedich
1031 is merged
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
ty sir
once the build server is happy with #1030 I'll kick off the release process
yaaaaaay
Stefan Sedich
@stefansedich
so we ripped the bandaid off, but gently applied it back :D
Aaron Stannard
@Aaronontheweb
(after one of you merges #1030, that is)
lol yeah
I /facepalmed when I read my comment afterwards
Stefan Sedich
@stefansedich
ah it was realted to this one
