@vstoppe What do you need? What feature does your boss need ?
vstoppe
@vstoppe
We start with asset management and prepare for database migration: collection information which server we have in which network, collect cpu, ram info, store contractual information and some custom things like running jboss-server, used ports and depending services. I know for the last things I will have to write my own script
no database migration, datacenter migration.
btw: i am very impressed of Ralph's documentation!!

@vi4m
and are you a developer/admin?
vstoppe
@vstoppe
I am a experienced linux-admin with much bash-scripting experience.
✪ vi4m Marcin Kliks
@vi4m
that’s nice
vstoppe
@vstoppe
python is not my world but I managed to handle the pip, install with it special package-versions and learnd now how to install python packages by hand.

@vstoppe
It could be helpful for other newbies, to mention in the docs that the main log file is ~/lib/python2.7/site-packages/ralph/runtime.log.
Now I have to find out why there is no module called "menu"
✪ vi4m Marcin Kliks
@vi4m
sounds like some requirement not installed or config issue
if you don’t need scanning feature, you can install version 3.0 which is much more fresh and easy to use
just scroll up and see the screenshots attached today
vstoppe
@vstoppe
Scanning feature would be important.
i see lots of menu-files. http://dpaste.com/3SWFC8C I think i have to dig deeper.

Here are some scripts which builds ralph docker https://github.com/allegro/ralph-docker
you can take a look how it is set up to build correctly
base and os dirs especially
vstoppe
@vstoppe
thanks! this could be interesting.
befor i hunt my lunch, i have one question. when ralph imports the "menu" module. is it a module which comes with ralph. or is it a module i can install with pip? there would be some installation candidates.

@vi4m
End of workday here
Try to follow docker bash scripts
Or ask @xliiv about it

@vstoppe
@vi4m: thanks for your hints!

@vi4m "if you don’t need scanning feature, you can install version 3.0 which is much more fresh and easy to use" does it means that you've stopped discovery service for ralph 3 or it's just too early to get it ? I know you guys working hard and version 3 seems to be amazing.
✪ vi4m Marcin Kliks
@vi4m
It's just too early for scan. We've focused on
Dc Visualization , manual asset tracking. Next milestone will bring scanning back. Probably 1 month

hi guys, how to change value of the Hostname field in Asset form (ralph 2.3.1)?
Mateusz Kurek
@mkurek
change it using device connected to this asset
damian1976
@damian1976
hmmm. Thsi is what I tried... There's no hostname field in device form. However there's "Name" field which is used as "Hostname". Confusing:)
Mateusz Kurek
@mkurek
yes - you're right
damian1976
@damian1976
Ok:) BTW is this field necessary? is it different from Hostname from Management section?
✪ vi4m Marcin Kliks
@vi4m
in 3.x it's one field called hostname
damian1976
@damian1976
ok, thanx

Hi i am trying to use ralph 3 by using vagrant, ralph is up but what are the default login and password ?
✪ vi4m Marcin Kliks
@vi4m
ralph:ralph
aveseb
@aveseb
@vi4m It seems that I should have missed something. I had to run ralph changepassword ralph in order to change password. Thanks you
Ben Agricola
@benagricola
hmm... is it possible using the docker image to not import the sample data? I'd like to just test with a completely blank install but can't find out how to remove all the data (or not import it in the first place)
✪ vi4m Marcin Kliks
@vi4m
@benagricola ralph 2.x or 3.x ?
Ben Agricola
@benagricola
2.x and never mind, i ended up logging into the docker image, flushing the db and rerunning init.sh with the make_demo_data line commented out :)
