Hi! What do you mean? There is only one abstract in papers.bib and the button here opens the abstract field. And these buttons also work on your github site (for me)
And the CV link in the navbar works as well - so maybe you fixed everything in the meantime

Is it possible to comment out some of the bib functionality such that the theme can be directly forked and edited on GitHub.com without having to compile first on your own computer then push?

Hello, everyone. And thank you for the nice theme.

I would like to change the font family on my website and I thought that I could do that from _includes/head.html, whereas I am not being able to see any changes when changing the Google font in the <!-- Fonts & Icons --> section. Am I missing some other file that sets the fonts for the website? Thank you so much for your help.

Hello, Thanks for this amazing template. I am using it to host my page on a custom domain. So the custom domain redirects to the github page. However, every time I deploy, my custom domain setting under github pages becomes empty and I have to reset it back to my domain (see image). Is there any field I can set in _config so deployment also sets the domain?

Hi @alshedivat, first of all thanks for this amazing theme! One question, is it necessary to run the deploy every time you want to update the changes? Doesn't it just work if you push every commit to the repository?

Hi, I have a question regarding to how to deploy the changes made in my local repository.
I commited my changes in my local repository and then accidentally ignored the script you provide for deploying.
Instead I commited and pushed as usual with git and github.
Using the server locally it looks great, I made all the changes that I needed but I do not know in which way using git push instead of $ ./bin/deploy could affect the page.
Thanks!

@alshedivat Just wanted to hop on and say thanks for creating this great Jekyll template for all of us. Thanks to @dariodematties, I came to know about your efforts. I see that a few people had questions about deployment. I actually got everything working with Travis CI after a bit of effort. See https://github.com/gkthiruvathukal/gkthiruvathukal.github.io/blob/main/.travis.yml.

The script: section is basically the equivalent of your bin/cibuild script.
I departed from the deploy script by going with the deploy: provider: pages option. Once the build is achieved, this section takes care of all details of deploying to gh-pages (or wherever you like). Just make sure to set the access token & FQDN (for the CNAME, if hosting your own domain).

@alshedivat One thing I was hoping you might be able to shed some insight on. Where would one need to look to get started with having "additional links" in bibliographic entires. I would like to support a "DOI" link to go to the actual doi.org bibliographic entry (at doi.org) and also be able to just set the "url" field to a single catch all location for retrieving HTML and PDF. At many institutions, we have digital libraries, so the actual artifact is already being hosted there, and HTML and PDF are often available.

On my site, I am currently just living with some duplciation and setting both html and pdf to the institutional digital library. I could probably just set html. But the problem is that it's not really the html version of the article. It is an entry that makes it possible to get HTML or PDF.

I have a couple questions about coauthors.yml: 1) How can you add a coauthor with multiple last names (in my case I want to add Claire Le Goues)? 2) How can you add two coauthors with the same last names?
George K. Thiruvathukal
@gkthiruvathukal

@joshsunshine From what I can tell, this is not yet possible. It seems to be by last name only. I am investigating how much work it would be to do something like this in coauthors.yaml:

Last:
First:
AnyMiddle1:
etc.:
url:

And you could even have multiple "First:" at any level. (Being able to disambiguate by First: would solve many problems though.)

I have exactly the same problem, because I have one paper co-authored by a father-daughter team (Ron and Sara, both with a common last name!

Might want to report this as an issue. It seems like a case that would affect many scholars, especially on many-author papers.

@joshsunshine, we have an issue #100 about more accurate co-author identification and a recent PR that tries to address it #156. I haven't had a chance to review the PR yet, but if it works well, I'll merge it over the weekend.

@alshedivat I was wondering how much time you spent with the citation support. I'm trying to figure out how to pass additional options to the underlying CSL. You might have noticed that for more than 2 authors, the APA style is giving "et al". For under 10 authors, et al is not ideal (even NSF frowns upon it!) Do you have any ideas on how to get jekyll-scholar to accept additional options. Apparently there is an option -et-al-min that can be set, but I couldn't get it to work with "cite".

Hi, thanks so much for providing such a beautiful theme. I am having some troubles with the distill post format. I want to write a blog post with that (rather than with the "post" layout) in order to exploit the bibliographic capabilities. However, I would like to remove the authors bar on the top, which appears immediately below the title (see the example https://alshedivat.github.io/al-folio/blog/2018/distill/). I am able to do that by removing the line

  <d-byline></d-byline>

in _layouts/distill.html. That however has the side effect of removing also the footer were references are supposed to appear. Does somebody know the right way to do that? I am not very expert in HTML, sorry if this is a dumb question.

Hello @alshedivat sorry to ping you here. I was trying to follow your instructions you gave me on issue page #150 but I ran into some trouble with the basic steps... I didn't want to clutter up that issue post so here I am.
I'm super inexperienced with this stuff so I almost surely made a mistake at some point. I originally set up my blog a while ago and had to wing it and improvise solutions to some of these problems but I don't quite remember how I solved them :/
I tried really hard to follow the instructions and look at all the issues/gitter posts to see if they could help fix my problems first :(
I forked and cloned the theme as 'al-folio-test'. Using Git Bash (I'm on Windows), I did the bundle install and bundle exec jekyll serve and everything was working so far. I made sure the url and base url fields were empty in _config.yml and I added my blog posts to the _posts folder (pushed them with Github Desktop). Then I did ./bin/deploy --user and it said it deployed successfully but the site just looks broken and none of the links work correctly. I tried having github pages use each of the 3 different branches with no success (someone on gitter mentioned that was their problem).

Hi everyone! First and foremost, thanks for the outstanding job you did with the theme. It's as beautiful and simple as it can get.

I'm trying to build a page that has some references in it. I saw that it is possible to cite some papers with {% cite bibtex_entry_key %}, which works fantastic. After that, I tried to add a short bibliography to the same page that has only the works cited within the page. I used {% bibliography --cited %} and it worked almost smoothly.

Problem: the rendered bibliography contains also the abstract of each cited article, which makes the bibliography extremely verbose. Is there an easy way to get rid of it? I'm hoping to find some solution of the {% bibliography --cited --skip abstract %} kind.

Are you aware of anything that could fix this problem?

Thank you in advance for your help

Hello, people. This might as well be a very trivial question, but if I try to upgrade the theme using

Assuming the current directory is <your-repo-name>

$ git remote add upstream https://github.com/alshedivat/al-folio.git
$ git fetch upstream
$ git rebase upstream/v0.3.1

as found in the read me file (note that I changed the last line with v0.3.5 as it seems to be the latest tag), I get the following error:

fatal: Needed a single revision
invalid upstream upstream/v0.3.5

Would you know how to fix that?

Hi everyone! My biggest thanks for the active community, especially the OG @alshedivat :D

I'm trying to upload the source code to another server so the website can run on that server. I have deployed successfully the page to GitHub Pages on branch master and used branch source for the source code. It works well on GitHub Page! But if I run the source code in master branch separately, it cannot load the source files (css, js) properly, hence the page on the other server is not working.

Could anyone give me some advice on how to deploy the page on another server?

Thank you in advance for your help :)

I'd have another simple question if you don't mind: the pages names, the title of the projects in the project page, and some other elements of the site, they seem to be forced to be lower-case. Can that be changed?

Hi @alshedivat, I re-installed the theme and manually ported my changes but my site is not working. It says "site not found" and in the settings and I can see there is this error: Your site is having problems building: The tag bibliography on line 5 in _pages/publications.md is not a recognized Liquid tag. For more information, see https://docs.github.com/github/working-with-github-pages/troubleshooting-jekyll-build-errors-for-github-pages-sites#unknown-tag-error. Everytime a change something in the file that github indicate that there is an error, it says the error is somewhere else. Any idea where is the problem? Thanks!

Hi, I am extremely new to jekyll and so on. I follow the instructions to add a new collection, but it doesn't work. I assume it is because the 'simple steps' suggested are not that simple and require more impied (jekyll) adaptations. So, when I edit the collections in config.yml like below, do I have to also manually create a 'students.html', and edit that html as well as the students.md so that they do not have 'project' specific html commands?

collections:
news:
defaults:
layout: post
output: true
permalink: /news/:path/
projects:
output: true
permalink: /projects/:path/
students:
output: true
permalink: /students/:path/

Matteo Barbetti
@mbarbetti
@egavves I am not a jekyll-expert, but for what I have seen you don't need to add new collections manually within the config file: it's enough to add a Markdown file in "_pages" following the structure of other files (like teaching.md)

Hi all. I'm having trouble building and deploying the locally generated site to github pages. The site works on my local machine/ruby jekyll server. The run can be found in https://github.com/Jarmill/jarmill.github.io/actions/runs/1872571755. I'm not sure what the specific error is in 'build', but 'deploy' does not run. There might be an interaction with jekyll-scholar in that scholar is not permitted to run on github pages. Does anyone have advice or have they encountered this before?
I also notice that the 'source' and 'master' branches are different in other people's sites, such as in https://github.com/sdaza/sdaza.github.io (master) and https://github.com/sdaza/sdaza.github.io/tree/source (source), where the (master) appears to be the contents of the (source)'s _site directory. Is this done automatically or manually by github actions?
Jared Miller
@Jarmill
I figured something out. In the line 22 of _config.yml "baseurl: /al-folio # the subpath of your site, e.g. /blog/", leaving the baseurl blank with a comment "baseurl: # the subpath of your site, e.g. /blog/" will produce an error. The comment should be removed to allow for compilation "baseurl: ". This may be a known bug, I see that line 17 of https://github.com/sdaza/sdaza.github.io/blob/source/_config.yml has no comment.

since I added some more text to the about page, the mobile version broke: now it's the profile picture, then social, and only then the text. Is there a way to fox this?
I'm okay with editing the CSS code but I'm just not sure where to look. I think I want to change it to just showing the photo at a 100% width in mobile and keeling the same order.

Hi! thank you for the great theme! I have a question regarding the news section on the about page.
what would be steps to change this to one or two rows of the most recent projects with an image?
As in see a row containing three most recent projects in the section which is currently news.
I have tried changing the news.html file in the _includes but I would like a grid of three projects in one row rather than a table which lists them one after the other and also to have the images.
Kind regards
