Why altred?
Alt stands for alternative. Thus altred is an alternative for the official red? No it is an additional space. Altred and also freered are repos where developers can experiment together with the red sources, helping each other, building on each others not so perfect code improving their combined efforts.

Code PR'ed for altred can be pulled even if it temporarily(!) would break a build or functionality, something that is unthinkable for the official red repositories. But this can stimulate a community effort in such way that all can cooperate on latest code additions by the members.
