anyone know of a good decentralized identity solution? like a way to have the same login across different apps for example. the user auth in gun works for a single app, but you cant just give your username and password around to different apps right?
@lain:iwakura.xyz like with all dApps, unfortunately the wallets & GUN currently have to have quasi-trust in the app. However, SecureRender is an initiative MetaMask, MaskBook, Brave, & etc. been helping me out with to fix that.
Tho again, the big problem is HTML/DOM have the biggest security exploits, so I'm probably gonna ship my own "gaming" version of it, which I doubt the others will sponsor.
so basically user identity would be managed by the browser?
not just identity, but data too. Its kept within a browser/user-owned "domain", which the browser enforces CSP (the stuff that stops CORS) that prevents the data from being sent back anywhere else, even the app owner.
you see many here in the community are keeping help/support alive :P and I should be working on docs, but I kinda want to have the docs run this, so the docs can be interactive itself. This is separate from our opportunity to test & fix & battleharden AXE agaisnt the 50M monthly users, which... is most vital, cause things keep growing so fast.
I'm trying to do weekly office hours to do screencalls to get bugs fixed and people organized to help speed up these things
so hollar if you want to be involved with the others on the actual building of this.
@amark lmk what you end up doing with AXE, I would love to help some more with that! I been dissecting Trystero with the hope of creating a DHT just for Gun that works both in node and the browser AND creates a chord-like network of peers, though that could flip the entire concept of axe haha
@Manuel-777: have you checked out bugout? https://github.com/chr15m/bugout i always wondered which is more decentralized, trystero or bugout. trystero uses trackers which if its a public tracker then it can get overloaded with traffic, bugout uses webtorrent.
though, i don't know if one is better than the other, in fact thats what i wanna find out. check out bugout and tell us/me your initial thoughts about how it would compare to trystero. i looked at both but i still have no idea how one compares ot the other, other than bugout uses webtorrent(so by extension that means dht) and trystero uses webrtc with public trackers.
@Manuel-777@azdez:matrix.org call tonight?
@rogowski already has PANIC tests for stuff like this.
checked the repo, looks like bugout relies on trackers too(not dht). @amark: wish i could but this week i'll be spending extra time at the office(training for my new position). my knowledge is very general and basic, but i hope @Manuel-777 joins you. i have been reading his posts here and its interesting.
Why does db.get('courses').map().once(...) loop 2 times with only 1 item in the set? Can I prevent it from doing that? (PS: I am not updating the node from within it)
I agree with you on that statement @amark LoneWolf Started off with react and it just didn't work out well for me, and then I moved to SolidJs and now it works really well with gun
Also @amark In terms of the way that peers work, does gun like switch between peers everytime it wants to send out data or do all peers get the same data? Because my concern always has been about how much storage will be available and what happens when a peer gets full
@amark There's nothing more inconsistent than "the browser". That's why standards have been developed for loading things which chrome-like browsers follow and polyfills/shims for them for cross-browser compatibility.
Hey @amark, I've updated PR #1170 as requested, let me know if anything else needs fixing!
@amark I found the bug I was trying to console log ack.sea.
It is ready to test if you wanna test it with me 😁 and you can add me as a friend using @cnnrdvs
@connor-davis sent you a friends request! One issue tho, messages should be encrypted, as it is now (even if we are not firends) I can see all your conversations
I know eventually they will, just taking it 1 day at a time
Can you send me your username
I accepted and I think there is a bug
else just send me another so I can see in the console
how can I get data posted in user graph ?
lets see (im Manwë btw, the ë works on Gun but UIs might need to handle it)
Ok we are now friends
Refresh your browser quick
Theres a bug where it doesnt autogenerate certificates for messaging
I sent you a message :)
oh yeah got the certs error haha
Hi everyone ... I am testing GunDB as a backend for creating Classrooms with LiaScript (an interpreter for interactive Markdown)... It works pretty well... Is there a free gunServer somewhere, that can be accessed by anyone? I was trying heroku in the free version, but this will not wake up the server, I had to do it manually ...
You can create you own node server for gun peer within 3 lines of code
Thx, I know... I was just curious, if there are some public servers, that can be used by anyone for small amounts of data ...
i use glitch.com for that. Server on a free tier wakes up in a couple of seconds - ok for testing purposes
