would be a question for someone else

@maxbertinetti yes the format is the problem. The amber recipes use the liquid template language from the TechMagister/liquid.cr shard. You will find it easier to use liquid to create recipes because you don't have to escape ECR output.

Thanks @damianham for the confirmation

@damianham after reading https://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-choosing-encodings and this https://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-choosing-encodings#http I think it is best to have all responses to default to UTF-8. I wonder if there would be any implications for currently running Amber Apps. Thoughts

How do I print something to STDOUT? puts p and pp are ignored or not showing anything
And using Log.info { something } is too much typing :P
George Dietrich
@Blacksmoke16
prob should use the log module
Richard de Wit
@richarddewit
Log.info { something } isn't outputting anything either btw.. I'm doing something wrong
Disregard my messages.. I was working in the update method instead of the create method.. My bad
George Dietrich
@Blacksmoke16
that would do it

Hi there, experienced RoR programmer here trying to take an initial look at Amber as an alternative. Fallen at the first hurdle :-( As they stand, the "get you going in 7 steps" instructions don't work - at least not with MySql, which is what I happen to have installed. A bit of google searching indicates that I'm not the first to have this problem, but I can't find a definitive solution. The instructions as they stand are fairly obviously not going to work because at no point are any MySql credentials specified. Are there any better "get you started" instructions anywhere please? It's disheartening when the "look how easy it is" ones don't work.

@damianham
@eliasjpr I guess there wouldn't be any implications for currently running amber apps.

Hi John, I am a long time MySQL user (since the initial release I think) but I switched to Postgres once I started using Amber and have never looked back. The online documentation for Postgres is superb and there are never any problems connecting to the database. I gave up on MySQL mainly because of the absurdity of specifying all the right credentials but still getting access denied errors. PJW (Postgres Just Works) :)

BTW I always use docker and docker-compose so once you have configured the docker-compose.yml file it is a breeze to run your app along with the database container

Hi there! Using granite I have a lot of Selects firing to DB if I do

List.all.each do |list|
  list.items.each do |item|
    puts item.name
    #...

Can I make just one call to DB like includes in Rails?

George Dietrich
@Blacksmoke16
idt
could do like Items.all then build out a map of list.id => items, and do same idea with items, select them all, map id to name, then use that hash

The linker doesn't find some library.
Which OS are you in?
BTW follow the advices here
Elias Perez
@eliasjpr
Im using POP OS

Try using llvm 8 or use llvm 10 with the symlink as advised on the forum post

Hello. For some reason, migrations do not work for me. Has anyone faced such a problem?

<DTZUZU> Anyone know if there's a sublime text syntax highlighting for .slang files ?

@drujensen
@VanyaNeytrino did I break something? What version of micrate do you have? Should be 0.8.0.
Ivan
@VanyaNeytrino
@drujensen yes, micrate 0.8.0
hmm, there is a table with users in the database, amber gives an error: relation "users" does not exist

Hm… Database creation and deletion commands work fine
it should be enough right

@VanyaNeytrino I had similar silent failure when there was an syntax error in index creation(in migration file). I ran the SQL statements in psql shell directly to understand if any issues.
