i don't understand how to use dark themes. I know that you can mark a theme as dark, but how do you use it?

input demo has this warning popping up: Attempted to use unregistered theme 'docs-dark'. Register it with $mdThemingProvider.theme()

angular.module('myApp', ['ngMaterial'])
.config(function($mdThemingProvider) {
  $mdThemingProvider.theme('default')
    .dark();
});
not sure what docs-dark is , you can define docsk-dark
$mdThemingProvider.definePalette('docs-dark', { ...

right, like i said, i know how to register a dark theme, but what's the point?
what does registering as dark do?
what's the difference between registering and marking it as dark and just registering a different theme?
Tim

to create a custom palette with your own colors
.dark() uses the built in palette depending on what theme you selected

so if i chose blue as the theme, adding dark() to it will make it use a darker palette instead?
Tim
@4tron
Jan 14 2016 19:01
when you define a palette you can set the contrast colors which is your dark palette
the dark colors based on the setup in the blue palette theme

thats how i understand it
i have some some pretty ruff problems with material though, so i am not too sure how much i really understand. Its such a nice library when it is working
tonyeung
@tonyeung
Jan 14 2016 19:05
i think the problem with it is documentation
some things they're just really lazy about documenting
Tim
@4tron
Jan 14 2016 19:08
yeah its wierd , if you see the documentation for all the other material implementations "Material Design Lite" "polymer" "materializecss" etc .. they are all pretty well done

yea, its especially surprising since it seems like its an official angular project
since its in the angular github

aside from a bit of a rough learning curve i like it a lot
just like angular~
i haven't tried the other products though

Jan 14 2016 19:26
yeah it is pretty damn cool , i think for me it was this very solid mindframe inside of bootstrap which i had been using for quite a while
tonyeung
@tonyeung
Jan 14 2016 19:26
mindframe?
Tim
@4tron
Jan 14 2016 19:28
well , i was just very use to the bootstrap way , which is not angular-material, not at all but then again , bootstrap is not made for angular , so there is a big separation in what bootstrap is trying to achieve and what angalar material is trying to solve
tonyeung
@tonyeung
Jan 14 2016 19:29
i think it has more to do with bootstrap being grid focused and ng-material being flexbox focused
