@dillonko_gitlab You have a better chance of getting a response if you actually ask a question, and provide information that would be useful for people trying to help you...

@Spawnrad Actually, it is $primary: map-get($theme, primary). Where in your case $theme is $candy-app-theme

I am supposed to be using angular six with angular materials. currently I was able to run the app with angular materials by getting past the issue by changing the package version.
does anyone know a better solution or angular material tutorial out there
?

@dillonko_gitlab I'm using Angular 6.0.1 with Angular Material 6.2.1 without trouble, so that shouldn't be a problem. But perhaps you should describe the 'issue' you are having.
For example, what are you trying to do, what did you expect that should happen, what is actually happening. Do you get any error messages?

@dillonko_gitlab You can take a look at the StackBlitz examples https://material.angular.io/components/table/examples if you need a working example. They use angular 6.0.7 and angular material 6.3.2

This is my materials module:
`
import { NgModule } from '@angular/core';
import { CommonModule } from '@angular/common';

import { MatButtonModule,
MatMenuModule,
MatToolbarModule,
MatIconModule,
MatCardModule
} from '@angular/material';

@NgModule({
imports: [
MatButtonModule,
MatMenuModule,
MatToolbarModule,
MatIconModule,
MatCardModule,
CommonModule
],
exports: [
MatButtonModule,
MatMenuModule,
MatToolbarModule,
MatIconModule,
MatCardModule
],
declarations: []
})
export class MaterialModule { }
`

@dillonko_gitlab And you're still not explaining what goes wrong, or any error you get
And you're missing the MatTableModule
in your MaterialModule
