@desyncr
Antigen uses a caching mechanism to avoid doing parsing, checking, etc each start up
This way it load a bit faster, when cache is disabled it avoids some conditions in which a cache may not be up to date with what's expected, example:
when using dynamic loading of themes, see here https://github.com/zsh-users/antigen/wiki/Troubleshooting
there are a few cases where it's described
indeedwatson
@indeedwatson
yeah i'm looking at the cookbook now
one last thing, would you recommend I install antigen through AUR? If so do I just install it or do I need to first remove the one installed through curl method?
DC*
@desyncr
I'm not sure how up-to-date it the AUR package, check that before using it. Otherwise use curl method.
Hope that it helps! Let me know if you're having any issues! I'm happy to help!
indeedwatson
@indeedwatson
the version in aur is v2.2.1.r0.g1d212d1-1, seems up to date
thank you so much dude
DC*
@desyncr
No problem! :)
indeedwatson
@indeedwatson
hey i have another problem that started happening since i installed antigen, when I launch a program from terminal and end it with & to detach it from the terminal, if I close the terminal the program ends as well, which shouldn't happen
DC*
@desyncr
@indeedwatson Try with nohup <program> &
Does it happen only with Antigen loaded?
indeedwatson
@indeedwatson
how do i unload antigen on the fly to test?
DC*
@desyncr
you could unfunction antigen but currently it's not possible to unload all bundles/plugins
you could do zsh -f
Which loads zsh without anything
indeedwatson
@indeedwatson
both nohup and zsh -f work as intended
so I'm guessing one of the plugins is messing it up. I'll have to try disabling one by one
DC*
@desyncr
Yeah, that would be the method I would use to debug these kind of issues

@sohocoke
Hi, finding antigen very cool. i just have a q on performance -- time zsh -i -c exit shows me 2.837 total, this is too slow. how can I make the shell launch faster?
came across some docs that suggest antigen cache-gen would be done automatically as of v2.x. doing it manually just resulted in a new shell seemingly ignoring all the antigen commands in .zshrc.
DC*
@desyncr
@sohocoke Hi there, caching is a great way to improve start up performance
Be sure to configure it to auto reset or reset it manually when doing changes
Following these steps it should work without issues
If you got any problems let me know, also sharing your .zshrc/.antigenrc file will be helpful in that case
sohocoke
@sohocoke
Mm ok, read the docs again and it sounds like the thing thats unnecessary in 2.0 is the conditional in .zshrc to check and consume the cache file. So maybe my problem is a badly generated file.
i’ll gather some disgnostics and post it shortly...

@cdarken
hi. how do I install a fresh copy of antigen? I cloned the repo in another directory and then I changed the path in my .zshrc to the new clone but it's behaving as if the old path is still active
DC*
@desyncr
Hi @cdarken You may need to execute antigen reset command. In order for Antigen to reset it's cached files.

@Kurolox
Hello, I'm having some issues with my antigen setup in my laptop
the theme isn't applying properly. If I apply a different theme and then the first one, it works until I close the terminal. However, setting up the theme in .zshrc doesn't work.
DC*
@desyncr
@Kurolox Could you share your .zshrc/.antigenrc config?
John Sockwell
@johnsockwell
I'm developing my first plugin. The plugin currently lives in a private github repo. I'm running into authentication issues when trying to install the plugin. Can anyone point me to a guide or some best practices?
Antigen tries to work in a non-interactive way (so, no prompt for user/pass should be displayed)
You should check your public key is properly configured locally and in github
Kaleb Elwert
@belak
@desyncr Do you remember if antigen manually loads prezto modules or is pmodload called?
Kaleb Elwert
@belak
I'm guessing it's manually... and if that's the case, I'm not sure how we'd want to handle the additional module dirs
DC*
@desyncr
Antigen load prezto modules manually, not using pmodload currently
Matthew Javelet
@0xMatt
When I run antigen bundle {bundlename} how can I have it persist to my .zshrc file? It seems it's only available for that current terminal session
DC*
@desyncr
@0xMatt It's by design this way. We have plans for v3.x to be able to configure Antigen in an interactive way. See zsh-users/antigen#334

@desyncr
BTW Happy new year to all! :smile:

@TCastelein
Hi quick question. I have installed antigen through apt sudo apt install zsh-antigen the next steps of instalation say i need to point to the antigen.zsh file. But i cannot find it
Can anyone help?
DC*
@desyncr
@TCastelein IIRC the debian package leaves it at /usr/share/zsh-antigen
