Hi. What is the recommended way to create a new database each time I start a container?
Sabbagh Fares
@Sabmit
Hello
I guess it's to create a script which will do the stuff for you
Then COPY that script to /docker-entrypoint-initdb.d/
Am-I right?

Hello, I need to use locale, ko_KR.UTF of POSTGIS. How can I do it after creating Docker image?

anyone got any snippets on how to sync a volume dir so data isnt lost over container start/stop?
is it the same for syncing to the official postgres contianer?
Jürgen Zornig
@pinkerltm
@myoung34 you'll Need to 'docker volume create --name <anyvolumenameyoulike>' first
then use that volume and mout it to your postgres Containers /data dir

I am using mdillon/postgis image,
but the data does not seem to be installed have I run the commands.
Below is the docker compose spec i am using
  pgdb:
    image: mdillon/postgis
    environment:
      - POSTGRES_DB=testdb
      - POSTGRES_USER=postgres
      - POSTGRES_PASS=Password12!
    #restart: unless-stopped

I fixed this
has anyone got this error Shapefile type: Polygon Postgis type: MULTIPOLYGON[2] ERROR: column not found in geometry_columns table CONTEXT: PL/pgSQL function dropgeometrycolumn(character varying,character varying,character varying,character varying) line 33 at RAISE SQL statement "SELECT public.DropGeometryColumn('',$1,$2,$3)" PL/pgSQL function dropgeometrycolumn(character varying,character varying,character varying) line 5 at SQL statement
could this be related to updating postgres?

column not found in geometry_columns

This error is often related to an table which is not listed in the geometry_columns metatable. Have you tried to use the AddGeometryColumn function from PostGIS to add a new column which is registered in the metatable ?

I am using mdillon/postgis image,
but the data does not seem to be installed have I run the commands.
Below is the docker compose spec i am using

  pgdb:
    image: mdillon/postgis
    environment:
      - POSTGRES_DB=testdb
      - POSTGRES_USER=postgres
      - POSTGRES_PASS=Password12!
    #restart: unless-stopped

what was the error?

henry senyondo
@henrykironde
Thanks @gannebamm , the error is ERROR: column not found in geometry_columns table CONTEXT: PL/pgSQL function dropgeometrycolumn(character varying,character varying,character varying,character varying). I think it may be caused by different versions of postgres-postgis at remote server and client. I will try to run the same commands in mdillon/postgis rather than from a remote client.

hey all, getting an error where the postgis image doesn't seem to create my DB despite passing environment variables to it.
postgis:
    image: mdillon/postgis:latest
    environment:
      - POSTGRES_USER=postgres
      - POSTGRES_PASSWORD=pass
      - POSTGRES_DB=eno
    ports:
    - 5432:5432
is my docker-compose
Phillip Ross
@phillipross
@CrispyCB double-check that the underlying docker volume doesn't already exist... otherwise, I believe the docker image won't try to create a db with the parameters you're specifying in the environment
