sometimes, i seem to be unable to find the right words for my ideas.
i just stumbled across a comment in my code and thought WTF?
in fact, i have no idea what it is about XD

@Archomeda
Feb 12 2016 00:50
haha
btw, does someone here have any experience in how the data structures of the .dat file work? i'm trying to understand the things rhoot has done on his github repo
but i don't understand the pointers >_>
it seems that if a structure has at least one pointer, the struct takes up 4 extra zeroed bytes after everything else in that same structure
but that makes no sense

thats out of my business, sorry :D

@codemasher my favorite comments are the ones that explain hacks, because sometimes its funny what they have to work around. :D
smiley
@codemasher
Feb 12 2016 00:55
i love these too :D
i usually try to comment my code too, but it becomes a problem sometimes when using // todo...
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Feb 12 2016 00:57
wait, the script is actually from ahom's repo
argh, whatever, i give up for today
oh @queicherius i remember i did a workaround for my guild's website administration page
that website is based on django, but i had to hack my way around a widget to provide the functionality i wanted
it was running 1.6 at that time (last year), my guild leader submitted a PR so we wouldn't need to work around it, but it's included in 1.9, and now we're running 1.8
if i were to look at that code, i can't even remember what i had done
or how to change it in a way that it doesn't involve that workaround anymore :D
i think i placed some comments there, but... eh... i can't even remember what those comments are about :cry:

@queicherius

Thats why I learned to always, always comment on "hacky" behaviour quite extensively. :D
Like, this is one of the things that happened during my semester project: peermusic/peermusic#6 >_>
If anyone has a better solution to that btw, let me know. :D
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Feb 12 2016 01:03
i don't even know what that's about lol

Basically chrome on andriod doesnt allow you to read the duration of audio files. It also doesnt allow you to play audio files without user interactions.
We wanted to display music durations in a table, so whenever a user tapped "play" it grabbed all songs that were buggy from import (since no reading duration) and then played them for a few milliseconds - in the play event listener you could get the actual duration.
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Feb 12 2016 01:04
well, no autoplay seems good to me, at least it won't drain my data plan then
David Reeß
@queicherius
Feb 12 2016 01:04
Gotta love "features" of chrome andriod sometimes.
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Feb 12 2016 01:05
not reading durations, i suppose it's only being downloaded once the user wants to play the audio file?
David Reeß
@queicherius
Feb 12 2016 01:05
Yeah, I get why it's there, but it's inconvenient for some features. Major problem is that you couldnt read the duration when just loading
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Feb 12 2016 01:06
oh well, it's google we're talking about
David Reeß
@queicherius
Feb 12 2016 01:06
No idea why that was there, I think it was just a bug (and it was local files)
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Feb 12 2016 01:06
they are inconsistent with everything
i think my google play music is still bugged on my pc
every time i start the sync app, it adds 1 extra pc to my account, while you can only have max 10
and you can only reset the devices once every year... :')

mainly because you sort of promise yourself to fix your mistakes sometime, but never do
Fixed additional bugs that caused mesmer illusions to inherit transformations from their owner.
meh, this bug must have been hilarious
you may find the one or other jquery and php rant too... :D

Gasp. The GW2 wiki sent me an unencrypted e-mail. How dare they!
Hmm, must be a new feature of GMail, telling you if an e-mail was encrypted.
smiley
@codemasher
Feb 12 2016 01:49
was it worth it at least? did it contain a password? in plain text?
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya

Nah, just notifying me a talk page got made. But I've never seen the little red padlock on e-mails before.

the perks of having your own mailserver and a mail client :D
not getting annoyed by such things
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Feb 12 2016 01:50
Wow, a lot of places don't use TLS then. Jeez, in my whole inbox there's only 1 encrypted e-mail..and it's from my college. Best Buy, Pokemon, GW2 Wiki..All unencrypted.
I'll get my own mailserver up sometime soon
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Feb 12 2016 01:52
I read the article about the new feature from the daily mail, well...
Google has introduced the security measure to help people identify dodgy emails and make sure users stay safe from hackers while using the email provider.
When a person is sending an email to a recipient whose account is not encrypted, making it potentially unsafe, Gmail will use the lock icon to alert them to the risks.
both statements are wrong, as a scammer I can still make TLS connections, and my account is not the thing getting encrypted by TLS
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Feb 12 2016 01:55
Well, combined with SPF records, it does actually help confirm the identity of the sender..Unless the mail server itself is compromised
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Feb 12 2016 01:56
but does that signal the padlock as well, not having such an SPF record?
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Feb 12 2016 01:57
Prooobably not.
Though, the whole point of SPF records is supposed to be denying any mailservers that don't match it, so..
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Feb 12 2016 02:02
I dont know SPF well enough to make comments :P

apparently the servers are acting up again in EU
some instances of LA and fields of ruin are failing to load, stay at STATE_SERVER_WAIT and then a popup shows up about a network error and shuts down the game :(

Are all the icons for items supposed to be the same size?
no
the icons are coming straight from content -- the game resizes them automatically
Simon Amor
@simonamor
Feb 12 2016 21:19
Guess I'll css it to fix the sizes then.
I should probably make that more clear in the docs since it's a common question.

Not API related, but why does the trading post in Queensdale break so often? :(
not a clue -- AFAIK the trading post interface doesn't interact with anything map-specific
if you're talking about the TP vendor in Queensdale there might be a script issue or something that's causing it to behave differently
