The Netherlands btw used to be UTC+00:19:32.12, but that got simplified to UTC+00:20, and during the world war to UTC+01:00
timezones are great fun
thanks gitter, for embedding this humongous video :P

Edgar Doiron

we all know that's a lie.
EST is the best, and closest to our European counterparts!
@Nabrok yes!

Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Mar 02 2016 19:25
not just that but doing a stream before launch, so you couldn't go to bed and wake up at 3

thats like feet, inches, pounds and dollars to me
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Mar 02 2016 20:09

it's funny though, being in Canada, we use imperial and metric in a mixed manner.

like weights i'll use pounds, same for measurement in feet, inches.
but long distance i'll use kilometers over miles, same for speed, KM/H over MPH

smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 20:09
omg
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Mar 02 2016 20:09
and for liquid measurement i'll use tsp, tbps cups over ml
Nabrok
@Nabrok
Mar 02 2016 20:10
Same in UK when I lived there
Distance there is still miles though I think
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Mar 02 2016 20:10
probably why every form that ask for weight and height, has a little checkbox for lbs/kg and feet/m
hehe
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 20:11
i used to work in metal works, CNC milling, and my company made precision parts for aviation and semiconductor industry... that was hell of fun to convert all those weird measurements
i mean, how do you even measure 1/32 in?
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Mar 02 2016 20:12
haha
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 20:12
it gets even weirder with those tolerances
+/- 1/87in
like that
i can understand, why we're and the swiss are leaders in precision works XD
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Mar 02 2016 20:16
lol
well you see
for me, I would use mm for those small measurements, but from 1/2 inch and up i'll use inches :P
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 20:18
fun fact, it seems that at least the metal industry has adapted metric measurements at least for anything which is impossible to measure with human body parts
git cherrypicking in those intelliJ IDEs is fun. nom!
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 20:23

markdown support! chillerlan/bbcode@aa06d13 post patch notes on forums and github! imagine! :D
(next: mediawiki)
Pat Cavit
@tivac
Mar 02 2016 22:25
the patch notes are marked up using textile
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 22:25
ewe
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 22:26
hmm, i could write a textile preparser though :D
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Mar 02 2016 22:27
well writing markdown is great, parsing it is horrible
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 22:28
i'm not sure what's worse... markdown or bbcode... :D
no wait
textile is the worst
(even more when it's silently supported and yields unexpected results... looking at you, Skype)
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 22:33
@tivac do you by chance have some raw textile patch notes i can use for testing?
Pat Cavit
@tivac
Mar 02 2016 22:36
Nope, sorry
I delete those emails
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 22:36
heh, for a reason i guess
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 22:59
where did you dig up these? :D on the wiki? :+1:
get the permlink of the post and add /quote to the end
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 23:01
but is that the real raw text or the preparsed by the forum?
darthmaim
@darthmaim
Mar 02 2016 23:02
should be the real one
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 23:02
thats it, because the forum itself does character replacements
i wonder if this happens before or after the kitten-filter
darthmaim
@darthmaim
Mar 02 2016 23:03
edit one of your posts and click quote to test it?
smiley
@codemasher
Mar 02 2016 23:04
i barely use textile
i type bbcode most of the time
btw. that in the quote box is for sure already transformed
even when you save/edit you posts, the forum will never ever again display your original input

@tivac @lye a transcript from #gww
[00:35] <relic> mystic forge recipes don't have ids?
[00:35] <smiley-> nope
[00:35] <smiley-> since they're not in the API
[00:36] <smiley-> speaking of which, relic https://gist.github.com/codemasher/e2e0e5e39de5dc4439e0
[00:37] <relic> couldn't they just blacklist recipes they didn't want to show up in mystic forge >.>
[00:38] <smiley-> ask this question directly over here to @tivac or @lye https://gitter.im/arenanet/api-cdi
[00:38] <relic> well now I know why alex wanted to use the subobject name...
[00:39] <relic> for exactly the ~5 items that don't have ids...
[00:39] <smiley-> heh
[00:40] <smiley-> i mean, having the subobject id fine for other kinds of uses too
[00:40] <smiley-> like http://gw2wbot.darthmaim.de/smiley, just in SMW
[00:41] <smiley-> *is
[00:41] <relic> I'm trying to fix the query form to not specify a subobject to pick a specific recipe
[00:41] <smiley-> ir should not use one at all when querying for recipes
[00:41] <smiley-> *it
[00:42] <relic> it's used to pick a specific item recipe for base ingredients
[00:42] <relic> specifically Dynamic Tempered Spinal Blades (Infused)
[00:43] <relic> and we don't have a name or id to specify which of the three recipes to use
[00:43] <smiley-> so why not just ask @lye to whitelist those items for the API :P
[00:43] <relic> and it is a dumb edge case that applies to maybe for items in the whole wiki
[00:43] <smiley-> i'm pretty sure theese are around there somewhere
[00:44] <smiley-> but the whitelist filter seems to run into false positives every now and then
[00:44] <smiley-> so any item, whic is ingame and which is supposed to be in the API and which is not listed, should be reported
[00:45] <smiley-> either via an issue in the api-cdi repo or on gitter
[00:45] <smiley-> https://github.com/arenanet/api-cdi/issues
[00:46] <relic> is there a specific reason for no mystic forge recipes? like spoilers?
[00:47] <smiley-> yea, i don't remember the exact reason but it has been stated multiple times
[00:47] <smiley-> i'm pretty sure you can find it somewhere in that gitter chat log or on the API forums
[00:48] <smiley-> and perhaps on github too :DS
[00:48] <relic> they might want to study how effective that is at preventing spoilers then
[00:48] <smiley-> heh
[00:48] <relic> because my guess is going to be "not very" when it gets posted on the wiki immediately
[00:48] <smiley-> like... not at all (hello that_shaman)
[00:49] <relic> well, since the wiki already posts the recipes...
[00:50] <relic> even if they can't look up the api directly, they could just query the wiki API to pull up those edge cases on their websites...
[00:50] <smiley-> i remember there was a chat about it and all these questions have been asked :D
[00:50] <relic> or use that mystic forge recipe database thing you said earlier
[00:51] <relic> does the secret tag mean link only?
[00:51] <smiley-> i mean, the item itself does exist and is supposed to be in the API once it has been discovered (=crafted in the MF)
[00:51] <smiley-> yea
[00:52] <smiley-> (this is not complete, i just wanted to show these kids how to usesimple versionig...)
[00:52] <smiley-> (also: effectively removing dupes :D)
[00:56] <relic> wouldn't it be fine to remove the items from the blacklist after two weeks after discovery?
[00:56] <relic> I bet that was discussed too
[00:56] <smiley-> thing is, those items don't notify themselves :D
[00:56] <smiley-> the whitelist is completely human in form of @lye
[00:56] <smiley-> he doesn't bite
[00:57] <smiley-> just drop him a line on gitter
[00:57] <relic> well, that's not important as far as the wiki's concerned, we just need the id eventually
[00:58] <relic> or whatever you mean by notify
[00:58] <smiley-> the wiki should be more important than any other 3rd party tbh
[00:58] <smiley-> since it's official :D
