true, but i think @queicherius disabled daily crawling of account data for history etc
ah that's true
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 00:09
@lye, speaking of which, what was the actual cause of the character api issue?
state corruption, effectively
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 00:10
that's a tough one
there was a bug in the player data reader which allowed you to add a character to your account, effectively, by requesting /v2/characters/Not Your Character/equipment?access_token=yourkey
Then Not Your Character would appear in your character list
And you could see all the data your API key had permissions for
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 00:11
and were you also able to view the actual character information?
yes
pretty nasty bug, really glad the API will ever only be read-only
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 00:11
ouch, that's more of an account breach than i initially thought
yep
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 00:11
glad you managed to fix it :D
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Apr 27 2016 00:11
tbh, I would not give an API key to any service that can change anything on my account
API's only gonna ever be read-only
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Apr 27 2016 00:12
yeah
with the exception of chat and maybe the contact list
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Apr 27 2016 00:12
but with something like chat
that is something that might be abusable
it's just gonna be guild chat, no whispers or anything
if you abuse it it's up to your guild to kick you
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Apr 27 2016 00:13
(maybe a system of confirmation, do you really want to allow {{ key }} to chat on your behalf?)
I am more worried of breaches and leaks of API keys
yeah, might separate it off from the other permissions with a nice red warning or something
anyway that's still a long ways off, got a million other things to implement/fix in the meanwhile
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Apr 27 2016 00:14
elonian prince has selected you to win 5000g, only thing you have to do is mail 5g to {{ insert account_name }}
not that different from standing in Heart of the Mists :/
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Apr 27 2016 00:15
yeah sadly, but GW2 does it waaay better then other games
(that account is bogus, do not ever send 5g to it!)
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 00:16
hahaha, i remember archeage on launch :D
you literally couldn't use any chat as they were spammed every second XD
raiding on a 3g budget lol

@lye Thanks for the fast fix! <3 Also that sounds like a really nasty bug. Completely understand that you took down the API for that.

Alright everybody, fun giveaway time! The person that names closest to the amount of emails that I got asking about the character API being broken (from being disabled till now) gets sent 20g ingame. just @queicherius me your number. Gonna see who's closest like tomorrow evening or something
I thought that would be fun. :D

also @lye, i'm pretty sure my guild leader can't wait for you to finally add the guild chat api
he can finally spam the messages about guild missions automatically then xD

hmm... this is quite an interesting value: https://gw2efficiency.com/crafting/calculator/48715-Halloween-Pail
wait are those real recipes
I didn't know you could convert between rare halloween mats
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 03:55
the halloween pail itself isn't, it's a vendor item; but yeah, it was surprising to see you can also create it this way...
I imagine they put that in as a sink for those ghost dog minis
but like ... it's not like that was a common drop :/
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 03:56
as if i have ever seen one...
i'm actually surprised there isn't an infinite loop happening here though
heh
if you really want to sink your halloween mats, you can mail t hem to me :>
I also accept taco donations
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 03:58
sadly candy corn isn't as cheap as it used to be... those halloween pails used to be 3g :(
cheap 20-slot bags
iirc they're still cheaper than wvw bags, which I think are the second-cheapest?
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 03:59
i don't know what i can do with the other items though, like the skulls, nougats and fangs
aside from fractal bags but who PvE's :/
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 03:59
i dislike the fractal ones in general... no compact
you can make gifts with them if you know someone with the recipe
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 04:00
wvw bags are 7g + some tokens, which is not bad
oh, 4g for 1 candy corn cob... you need 3 for the pail... heh
at that point even the 10g crafted one is cheaper
oh well, it will probably go down once halloween is around the corner again
unless they find another sink for candy corn
wow, converting those halloween items in the mystic forge... you can choose between 6 recipes with the following outputs: 2, 3, 8, 18, 45 and 45 depending on the salvage kit taken
although i would say that using a mystic salvage kit is a waste XD
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 04:05

or nvm:

Kits above Basic disburse their results in multiple groups of 2 or 3, and may produce a random quantity.

and lol those recipes you were talking about?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_Spiders
it's cheaper to buy it directly than to craft it :laughing:
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 04:11
however, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_Souls is cheaper to craft
i don't even
anyway, i got sidetracked... i was actually going to look at my character's weapons to see what i need to improve
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Apr 27 2016 04:16
my warrior's rifle still has the sigil of mad scientists on it... because it's actually the dungeon weapon :P

@Archomeda At one point, corn cobs were at 2g apiece so pails were very useful to get

@Archomeda Removing that recipe, thanks. That kinda distorts the value. :<

@queicherius > estimated amount of emails : 2500. That would make around 1/4 your daily unique visitors, so it wouldn't surprise me.

i'm still unsure how mine died. i still suspect a connection between the external USB - both SD died when i plugged in USB OTG
Christian
@zeeZ
Apr 27 2016 16:15
which is kind of silly because of 1) the 100Mbit switch it was connected to and 2) the fact that the network speed is limited by the cpu
try a third to collect more data

i don't judge the sillieness of your projects, though :D (redirecting crawlers infinitely... right? )
Christian

i still like that idea
every webserver should have something like that - send every unwanted bot into redirect-nirvana :D
I just add the offending IPs to a persistent bpf table with a rule to drop all packets from them >_>
Christian
@zeeZ
Apr 27 2016 19:19
easier to drop all and whitelist the good ones at this point :P
I'm at the stage where I go one step above and drop the smallest assigned block

Apr 27 2016 19:25
IPv6 is gonna be fun
well, drop them unless they're some kind of full everything internet scanner for "research" purposes
