What's on the plate for this week @lye
Aralicia
@Aralicia
May 03 2016 14:38
Well, it seems that we'll have a but of updates on the characters & professions endpoints.
At least, that's the last issues that were labeled as ready.

ready = ready to be implemented
waiting for deploy = coming soonish
*needs deploy
Aralicia
@Aralicia
May 03 2016 14:43
ha okay. not the meaning I usually see on GH.
So the currently "need deploy" date from between January and March... and at least some of them are already deployed.
this one, for example : arenanet/api-cdi#219

I hope they fixed it
@Coffee4cr I don't even know; have had my head down for awhile putting out fires
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
May 03 2016 17:44
A fire extinguisher works better than your head, in most fire cases...
@Aralicia ah yeah, I need to go through and close some of them out. I'll do that after I fix this live server crash.

I guess that's a hint for LS3 maybe?

time to put updates into cron.hourly
spin up a fresh instance, update it, switch over and destroy the old one every hour, just to be sure
smiley
@codemasher
May 03 2016 21:15
one hour may be a bit over the top
make it two hours

apt-get upgrade on a cronjob isn't a bad idea, I might do that
it's all fun and games until you can't read /dev/sda1
Christian
@zeeZ
May 03 2016 21:16
well it kind of is on something like a cronjob already
it's triggered by me waking up every morning

guildwars2-spain, guardianhq, reddit, guildwars2guru and elitepvpers
they must all be very bad with charr names
I also have two SEO social-button-thingumabob referers that are very interested in http://dragonwatch.net/releasedate/

my archlinux system decided that it was a good plan to autoupgrade
that.went.off.instantly
kinda surprised that'd be enabled by default
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:19
it was gnome-software that made a fancy systemd target for it
I recommend switching to FreeBSD
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:19
arch is a fine linux distro for my needs :>
It doesn't upgrade by default without user intervention. If you miss a security patch it's your fault for not paying attention.
(it actually does almost nothing out of the box)
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:20
arch comes with 200 packages out of the box, no gui
FreeBSD's package manager, pkg, isn't even in the base install.
You have to install it via ports.
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:21
wow
It's wonderful.
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:21
that is hardcore
portsnap fetch extract && cd /usr/ports/ports-mgmt/pkg && make install clean
it's not as bad as it sounds
(and every other port depends on it implicitly since it manages installed metadata, so you'll end up installing it one way or another)
(unless you really don't want to)
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:26
just for my info, how different from linux is it?
and how.. well supported
it's a completely different OS, though it still looks-and-feels like POSIX
as for support -- depends on what you mean by support
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
May 03 2016 22:29
Yeah, I'd rather stick with the gool ol' linux kernel
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:29
amount of software available - support
it runs pretty much anything that's distributed in source form
it's not FreeBSD's fault that e.g. you can't run steam on it
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:30
i'll check it out
if you want hw acceleration, make sure you have an nvidia card
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:30
nv is the way to go on linux as well
it's kind of sad tbh that AMD/Intel don't also provide drivers for non-Windows machines
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:31
intel does
open even
AMD provides open drivers too.
They're total garbage.
the nvidia drivers are the same codebase between windows/linux/freebsd/etc
and as much as I would love to support AMD, they really need to actually ship something I can use.
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:32
yep same
nvidia is a prereq for a laptop I buy
if you're looking to run a laptop, you're gonna have a lot of issues with FreeBSD
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:33
can I install it on a pi
for funsies?
yes
there were some issues with the MMC driver using the slow interface but I think they're corrected now
(that was a couple years ago)
the releng team builds a raspi image these days I think
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:34
i'll have to set up a SNMP server anyway
and well can do that on FBSD as well
gotta get those graphs
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:35
gotta pass that course :>
hmm, according to ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/ISO-IMAGES/10.3/ the image name is RPI-B which makes me think it doesn't work on the old RPI-A's
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:37
I have a second gen B I guess
should work fine

@lye i saved my money for that rotten apple thing and bought fujitsu-siemens instead
turns out: best desicion ever
i get drivers for win/linux starting from 2k5 or so
not gonna lie, I just needed something that had a working battery and didn't want to think too hard about it

i'm not sure you know how ssl works
literally no one uses client certs
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:45
well it is generated, but still secret
no, no private key is generated on the clients for anonymous client auth
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:45
am I mistaked
maybe
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 22:58
right I was mistaken! some googling and old slides proved valuable. Thanks for pointing me on my mistakes @lye :>
was thinking about a more traditional (like DH) exchange, on which both sides do generate keys
oh yeah, considering DH/EDH you're totally right
I'd forgotten about that
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 23:05
not very common anyway
I'll constrain my previous statement to only include private keys used for authentication/authorization
DH/EDH is really common -- it's how you get PFS
IMO every TLS server should be configured to only allow cipher suites which include DH/EDH
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 23:08
right, ECDHE
learning stuff every day, networking is not my strong point
neither mine; I just like spouting off about things I know little about
it's a bad habit
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 23:09
well, making mistakes makes you learn right
you made me relook slides of Algebra & Security, Telematics and google some RSA

right, running full zerker ele in wvw is a bad plan
if it's anything like necro, it's mostly about positioning
I run mostly zerker necro (soldier's weapons) with my anet tag up :/
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 23:22
necros have two lifebars
eles..... don't
ele has blink/mistform
smiley
@codemasher
May 03 2016 23:23
is full cleric ele still a thing?
AFAIK no
meta is still running full/mostly zerk eles
smiley
@codemasher
May 03 2016 23:24
anyone runs full zerk anyway :S
I've seen heralds/druids running healing builds though
and I've heard about the second age of shout wars but haven't actually seen anyone running one
smiley
@codemasher
May 03 2016 23:24
i ran a water build most of the time
yeah on ele you'll be in fire/water 99% of the time
at least, on traditional staff ele
smiley
@codemasher
May 03 2016 23:25
water/earth was always fun with those zerker sins
windwarrior
@windwarrior
May 03 2016 23:26
watch the retal tho
smiley
@codemasher
May 03 2016 23:26
they see: "ele with staff - easy pick"
they do: run away after 5 minutes of not being able to even hurt the ele
