my bank got a lot more secure in the past year. instead of a guy asking for parts of my password it's now a computer asking for parts of my password

Hmm, they're storing it plain text somewhere?

May 06 2016 13:23
for sure
i had a webhosting provider who did that
i switched providers as soon as i learned that
Christian
@zeeZ
May 06 2016 13:24
well they require a fixed length of 5, maybe they store each character as individual hashes?
smiley
@codemasher
May 06 2016 13:24
haha
btw. the webhosting provider in question is, in fact, Germany's biggest

so ... why is the scale of my wvw map way off since the patch?
Christian
@zeeZ
May 06 2016 13:27
there was mention of an additional zoom level in some topic related to the wvw map, maybe it's that
smiley
@codemasher
May 06 2016 13:28
wait what, zoom=7 for wvw? :o
Edit: It turns out the incorrect objectives placement in my map was because the Mists continent now has 8 zoom levels instead of 7. So /v2/wvw/objectives has correct coordinates.
That is all I know on this topic. I'm not even sure why I read it
or why I can remember such an aside
idiotic memory.
Nabrok
@Nabrok

Actually had to change maxZoom from 6 to 7.

@codemasher Had a feeling. Lots and lots of bad experiences with them, both for hosting and for internet/phone. For example ~3 months no internet after we swapped to them a few years back. Was fun. >_>

there's a reason why i "rely" on the Telekom for phone/DSL... webhosting is now on Hetzner which is super nice and customer friendly

I still have a 1&1 VPS. I've been meaning to cancel it, but cleaning out the still usefull stuff on it...

I just want a google fiber connection please. :( Currently with unitimedia for internet and uberspace (they are great, best support ever) and ovh (they are cheap) for servers. Also have some random servers everywhere, but yeah cleaning up is annoying... at some point i'll move all my domains to one spot too! one day! :D

I dread the day my OVH HDD fails
also gpg/pgp is weird. I tried creating a new encryption key in the batcave, exporting and reimporting it on the PC, but it refused to show up unless I created a new keyring
pretty sure I tried every combination of command that contained export and various amounts of key and sub
hahaha oh man OVH
Christian
@zeeZ
May 06 2016 19:17
well, not OVH directly, kimsufi, the most cheapass brand ever
according to google results I'm the only person not using it for A) a minecraft server or B) some torrent box
I'm using soyoustart, which is basically the same deal as kimsufi -- old hardware on oversold networks QoS'd to hell
but yeah OVH historically has been very lax about torrent seed boxes (e.g., if no one complains it's no big deal) and they don't QoS inter-DC connections, so it was really typical a decade ago to just share a leased OVH seedbox/downloader between friends.
Those were good days
Christian
@zeeZ
May 06 2016 19:21
I think I just locked myself out of mine for a week because outlook tried to autoconfigure itself and portsentry... well..
performance wise kimsufi is a huge upgrade from my 1&1 VPS for about the same cost
I'm really not a fan of VPS's -- the cost/performance ratio has never been there for me
I'd rather get a cheapo OVH box if I just need a small thing, or a larger hetzner/100tb box if I need a network that isn't garbage
(or just host it out of my house)
Christian
@zeeZ
May 06 2016 19:32
But hosting out of the house requires maintenance work :P
Also thick walls. I have some old IBM xSeries here that I got for free. Turns out they're not basement material

May 06 2016 21:44
@queicherius That's really cool, one thing though ... if I switch between buy/sell price it doesn't update the tree options if crafting becomes cheaper than TP or vice versa.
David Reeß
@queicherius
May 06 2016 22:02
@Nabrok Yeah, that's by design. I wasnt quite sure when to make it just use the same tree and when to use the best tree. You can just toggle the amount forth and back and then it calculates the new best tree for the specific price.
I might change that tho, good point
