what was firefox again? :D
I was gonna say "it's that crappy browser" but that doesn't really disambiguate these days
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 00:01
hehe, tbh, i prefer opera over firefox anytime nowadays
okay, now it should be working a lot cleaner
though I should probably hide markers at max zoom or something because they're quite slow
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 00:05
oh, way faster now too
but they won't embed these anyway <.<
that's pretty nice
hmm did I open a PR for the sector polygons
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 00:08
i made that back whne cliff published the first drafts of that api
oh yeah there it is
that just needs backend support to go out
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 00:08
ohhh, nice
I ended up refactoring all of the backend maps stuff so it's a lot easier to change now
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 00:09
Ishmael would like that if he was actually active
but he's currently taking a break from the wiki
that's pretty neat
such a small box though ;_;
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 00:13
yea, these were all proof of concepts i made
there were ideas of a lightbox to expand the map
ah yeah, that's an idea
I might steal some of this later
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 00:15
heh
you better make a widget for the wiki then :P
that seems like a lot of work
I'm just gonna make toys for myself
i glued this together to get the coodrinates for the polylines and stuff
(gmaps because of the fraking awesome polyline handling 'n cool stuff...)
polylines are super easy in leaflet
I've got a patch for that map example that adds in sector lines

May 14 2016 00:22
@lye Speaking of map tiles, have you seen that line on the right side of the leftmost WvW borderland? I can swear that wasn't there before.
uhh hmm
happen to know if that shows up in-game?
I had to rewrite a large portion of the tile generator; looks an awful like an off-by-one
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
May 14 2016 00:23
I've only ever seen it in-game
phew
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
May 14 2016 00:24
"thank god, not my fault"
probably some really obscure issue with the increased continent size
YEP
the mapping code (and the layers that generate it) is not something I'm really familiar with
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
May 14 2016 00:25
Yeah, I just noticed it once while looking at that BL's hills
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 01:43
btw. is there a reason to keep #55 open? i think that's already out-of-date, eh?
ah, yeah, I'll go ahead and close that one out
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 01:50
pretty much same for #68, -> #127

@Eearslya i'm still waiting for someone to fix the odd overlap between rata sum and metrica... ever since rata sum magically moved down, the maps don't line up anymore :worried:
this is not directly related to the api tiles generation though as it's also ingame @lye :D
also @Eearslya, there's also a horizontal line above eotm
it seems that both those vertical and horizontal lines are dividing the map equally
phew

aaaand I broke the game
Kryta was not prepared for gliding
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 12:37

I have an ANA flight coming up, wonder if I'll get japenglish announcements
Their weird translations are the bestest
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 14:49
but tbh "we almost made it" while sitting in a plane... ugh :D
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 14:50
Well he's not wrong, you just have to interpret the context correctly :P
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 14:51
"wir hätten es fast geschafft" does not imply an intended context though.
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 14:52
wouldn't that be "we would have almost made it" though?
plus we don't know how the sentence continues, maybe he went on with "... in time for..."
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 14:58
i was about to dig up my old english grammar books, but i'm too lazy... :D "almost" leaves a bit of interpretation, yes.
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:01
of course we learned what "we almost made it" usually means, so it may totally imply impending doom
oh the joy of seeing a language from an "outside" perspective :P
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:03
tehehe
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:04
english is weird anyway
in the US you see "open" and "closed" signs in stores, in Japan the signs are almost always "open" and "close"
I don't recall ever seeing an "opened" sign anywhere
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:05
the store is "open"
no one would say the store is "opened"
neither would anyone say the store is "close"
well, ok, it is perhaps close to a street...
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:07
but "opened" is totally a word
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:07
for sure it is
context matters :D
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:07
it's even an adjective
japan don't care, they even have "sorry we're close" signs :P
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:08
lmao
they also drive on the left side despite using the metric system!
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:09
wait, leo has "close" as an adjective with the "geschlossen" translation as well
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:09
omg, the downfall of the english language
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:09
maybe adjectives don't do what I think they do
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:10
but i can't think of using "close" as an adjective

here it is a preposition

well, ok, it is perhaps close to a street

smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:14
glad i'm not completely dumb :D
Archomeda
@Archomeda
May 14 2016 15:15

@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:15

smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:17
okay :D
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:17
I wonder where leo got "close" as "geschlossen" from, it's not in there

May 14 2016 15:19

also "offen"
Archomeda
@Archomeda
May 14 2016 15:20
yay for languages being so similar to each other; now we just have to boycot english as a language
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:20
ja, offen oder geöffnet - that's what a door sign would say
well, dutch ist a mix of german and english anyway (derives from plattdeutsch)
so, pretty easy to understand for us
Archomeda
@Archomeda
May 14 2016 15:22

smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 15:22
there's the "Plattdüütsch" wikipedia, that should be quite similar to dutch in many ways
Archomeda
@Archomeda
May 14 2016 15:23
there are some words in german that sound similar to other words in dutch, but have a completely different meaning :smile:
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:23
there are swedish calendars that have a completely different meaning in german

Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 15:27

May 14 2016 15:30
I guess that applies to a lot of things
Is that a double rainbow?
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
May 14 2016 15:49
Nah, the japanese signs say "close" because you're close to the store, that's all
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 16:04
so, technically correct?
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 16:32
@zeeZ i just realized that the german word "fast" is the problem here http://www.dict.cc/?s=fast
but even "We nearly made it" isn't that much better :D
bad wording to use on a plane anyway... haha
Christian
@zeeZ
May 14 2016 17:19
so, we have automatic online check-in. how long until online bag drops?
smiley
@codemasher
May 14 2016 20:11
oh god, now that i've basically unfollowed all the germans that would tweet about the eurovision song contest, the americans start to tweet about it...
