I had to add a backend command to the server that maintains gem balances
I'll try to pester people to deploy the change
I'm not sure what the deployment process for that looks like but since it's in the money-making pipeline I'm not surprised we'd be hesitant to push changes out to it

Yeah, completely understand that code touching money things is a different beast. Was just curious.
I actually had to roll back a change that was scheduled to go live with this release or the last one that depended on that new command existing
Thankfully caught it on stage rather than needing a hotfix, but it's still pretty eugh

@codemasher re: vistas; I haven't done anything with the data yet Smiley, but I have previously correlated and added all IDs to the vistas on area pages, so I can pull them out using a smw query: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Chieftain_Alex/sandbox

Also, did you notice that Lion's Arch Aerodrome has no area name but the zone is defined ... and the polygon wrapping it isn't quite the same size as LA.

It looks like I never got around to adding the WvW objective IDs onto the wiki, so those are missing from that wiki list for starters.

I think the total should be 226 (core tyria map completion) + 7 (silverwastes) + 6 (dry top) + 25 (heart of thorns) + 40 (current wvw) + 30 (old wvw) = 334. So the wiki is missing 4 across non-wvw maps, and all of the wvw vista objectives.

awesome, i finally managed to succeed in creating a dynamic form that will allow me to create roles for raid signups :D
now i only have to create support for event templates, actual signups, user management, and maybe more :(

@lye i'm just thinking about the /v2/floors endpoint and how it would be better usable. the map_id is unique across all continents - what if you would dump the whole object (that i'd get when i dig through floors until i reach that map) to /maps/map_id instead and leave floors just with the metadata. and to easily assign floors, add continent/region/map ids to each map object.
that would also make it easier to pick single maps for a floor
and it would save me a lot overhead on certain requests (ie. when i need metadata)

there might be some technical issues with the implementation (it's a different backend request I think) but those aren't intractable

@codemasher the four pairs of double ids should be fixed now. Considering that all the vista names were done by hand it's not surprising there's a few typos. (I found 3 just looking at the blue borderlands - red and green tomorrow or later in the week.)

AFAIK vertica is basically a wrapper around MSSQL that provides a uniform interface for event logs; I just connect directly to the underlying MSSQL instance and run queries directly so I've no idea what the benefit of it is
you'd have to ask one of the analytics guys

when I am developing something with the API, I like hope never to see screenies of API reqs
that usually means trouble
but well, I guess I optimise a lot on amount of calls, Material Heatmap for one does a total of 9 calls
eh if there's actual trouble I won't tell you guys, I'll just fix it and hope that the API doesn't change too much
it's happened a few times in the past -- the fix is usually more caching

as much as I like hating on the gemstore, I think it is a good revenue model
Some products are questionable (why is mini Sabetha a gemstore item... :'( ), but I think anet did cosmetics and convenience over pay2win correctly

The lore/style is akin to WoW, as are class roles and builds - The combat movement and telegraphs are similar to GW2. I played it a lot... The dungeons/raids were amazing. Challenging, but fun. But the combat/builds ended of feeling very static. The attunement system was way grindy and pvp/itemization/optimization was flat out broken.

No. Not tactical really. GW1 had build variety per fight. Wildstar (at least when I played it) had one viable build per role with maybe one/two swapped skills.

the fight is actually quite easy, you can ignore most mechanics because breaking KC's breakbar makes them go away
and if you do good at the core phases, you can rapidly take it to body-block phase (66 & 33%)
(this is soo typical GW2 player btw, oh we can safely ignore this mechanic)
