trying to point dns to new server, baffled that the control panel has no option for AAAA records
I guess it's time to switch

Pfft, who uses IPv6?
It's too new and scary.
Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 13:50 UTC
also it's still on domain.com, try googling anything about them

...I see what you mean.
Even quotes doesn't help.

me!
i have an IPv6 adress
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 13:53 UTC
@windwarrior then you're new and scary too
(so am I though)
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 13:54 UTC
my university is stupid and doesnt hand out /48 or /64 blocks, so I have a single stateless-autoconfigured IPv6 adress
So I cannot make my own hierachy
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 13:56 UTC
I have a /64 but
what the hell am I supposed to do with it
I have like, 4 VMs and 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 IPs
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 13:57 UTC
have prefix:DEAD:BEEF:0000:0000
or, prefix:FACE:B00C::, as well, facebook has

uhh
right
Pinging facebook.com [2a03:2880:11:1f83:face:b00c:0:25de] with 32 bytes of data:

I honestly expected more like /96 allocations for IPv6 but apparently any prefix less than /64 breaks RFC
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 14:02 UTC
on my previous connection I had a /48, meaning that I could have 2^16 subnets, and still stateless autoconfigure any device within that subnet
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 14:03 UTC
/48 why
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 14:04 UTC
well, apparantly my provider must have had something like a /32, and well not 2^16 customers
can I look up who has what block btw?
is there a site for that
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 14:05 UTC
to the iana/ripe
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 14:06 UTC
Apparently we've only used 15 of our /16s so far. Maybe 20 if you start counting the link-local ones...
20 out of 65535
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 14:08 UTC
oh, XS4ALL only has a /36
that makes no sense
oh yeah, I am wrong, they indeed have 2 /29s
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 14:10 UTC
I mean, anything that's a multiple of 4 can work in theory
I'm trying to think how, or if, an odd subnet would work
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 14:11 UTC
why not?
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 14:13 UTC
Oh, no, I'm wrong. I was thinking about it the wrong way..An odd-numbered prefix would just mean subnets could have slightly different prefixes
Still, for simplicity's sake, I can't imagine why people would do that!
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 14:15 UTC
well, if you give a party 2x a /32, you might as well give them a /31 right ;)
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 14:15 UTC
..Alright, true.
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 14:19 UTC
wow, a dutch provider (XS4ALL) which is one of the first to deliver IPv6 to customers in The Netherlands
they accept my preference to noit have cookies
most websites just send you out
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 14:22 UTC
I'd say most websites don't give you the choice; they just say "this website uses cookies, by using it you agree to this" at the top or bottom
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jul 03 2016 14:26 UTC
yeah
and normal people still have no clue what a cookie is
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 14:28 UTC
Most seem to think it's either something unavoidable, or have been told they're bad
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jul 03 2016 14:30 UTC
When I first heard websites had to ask people to give permission to store cookies, I thought it was the dumbest idea ever
Like if normal people know what they are...
also, yay i made a resource counter in factorio with colored lamps

I really wanna get more into factorio

I've never even gotten into trains
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jul 03 2016 14:35 UTC
12 lamps that are colored and lit based on how much % there is left
amazing stuff
basically: make laws/guidelines to legitimize genetically altered food

Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 14:56 UTC
what.. what does it do?
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 03 2016 14:56 UTC
Indicates how much copper ore they have
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jul 03 2016 14:56 UTC
it counts how many of one resource there is, and it transforms it into the lamps on the left
basically the limits that i have set: < 30% red, 30-70% yellow, > 70% green
oh come on
and then the amount of lamps that are lit depends on some other configuration, currently i've set it to have 12 chests and it calculates from that
smiley
@codemasher
Jul 03 2016 14:58 UTC
@zeeZ v impressive :D

Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 15:49 UTC
all I'm really using from that is dims and the min/max zoom... maybe just hard code that
smiley
@codemasher
Jul 03 2016 15:49 UTC
hmm, refuses to work on both of my pcs D:
max-dims and min-max zoom are things you should indeed hardcode... ;)
Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 15:51 UTC
but why hardcode something that's available from the API? :P
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jul 03 2016 15:51 UTC
cache it on the server then ;)

Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 16:12 UTC
heh
Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 18:15 UTC

@codemasher
Jul 03 2016 18:18 UTC
why is it so hard for cool services to integrate each other? like scrobbling my shazams to last.fm or have last.fm integration in spotify (existed at one point)... why?
Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 18:20 UTC
I could now automate the process of registering domains and serving that thing for every single map region there is :D
smiley
@codemasher
Jul 03 2016 18:20 UTC
oh hey, i can add shazams to a spotify playlist and let spotify scrobble... listening to vinyl has its... perks. ^^
do it, @zeeZ - polyfill for the awaited geocoding service!
Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 18:21 UTC
geocoding service?
Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 18:36 UTC

Christian
@zeeZ
Jul 03 2016 18:38 UTC
