fighting with regular expressions, as usual, I'm not sure why it isn't working, I've either not escaped something or I've escaped something twice.

if you're familiar with rubber duck programming debugging you won't be surprised to hear I just found it - escaped twice.

I've only got this problem in the first place because I'm reading in wikicode, saving it in text files, then pasting it into the scratchpad a day later, forgetting if I escaped stuff before saving.
just spliced together skill names, update dates, update patch notes and wiki page revision ids..
using the mediawiki API makes me realise how nice the gw2 api is
e.g. two revisions for the same skill, https://wiki.guildwars2.com/api.php?action=query&prop=revisions&rvprop=content&format=jsonfm&revids=1083185|1086806 and it doesn't even tell me which damn revision each came from.

Hey @ChieftainAlex if there's anything we can do or even install on the wiki server backend, let us know (sorry for the intrusion, I was just here because I got a notification about this message :) )

@StephaneWithAnE_twitter doubt there's anything more helpful than the mediawiki API. the problem is, the API is a mess because mediawiki is a mess :D but it's being used all over the place anyway. there are countless scripts for it out there^^

I'm just mentioning this in case there's an extension that can help, for example

this would be a bot script which is being used as front end to the API. so what's needed (not on wiki side) is knowledge about how a wiki bot works ;)
inb4 huge embed warning
