@lye, do you know if the api supports a special property or something for Axe Mastery? https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/traits/1440

Critical axe hits gain extra adrenaline. Gain ferocity for each axe you are wielding. Reduce recharge on axe skills.

Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 11:47

the same things applies to Dual Wielding actually, https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/traits/1707

Attack speed is increased when wielding a sword, axe, or mace in your off hand.

@queicherius glad you're enjoying it :D
Archomeda
@Archomeda

when looking over the weapon traits for elite specializations on the api, i noticed that the english localization team has introduced inconsistencies:

Thief - Staff Proficiency: You can wield a staff.
Ranger - Staff Proficiency: You can wield a staff.
Warrior - Torch Proficiency: You can wield torches in your off hand.
Dragonhunter - Longbow Proficiency: <missing description>
Necromancer - Greatsword Proficiency: You can wield greatswords.
Mesmer - Shield Proficiency: You can wield shield items.
Engineer - Hammer Proficiency: You can wield hammers.
Elementalist - Warhorn Proficiency: You can wield the warhorn weapon.
Revenant - Shield Proficiency: You can wield shields in your off hand.

singular and plural forms are mixed, there's a missing description, "shield items" vs "shields in off hand"(?), sometimes mentioning off hand and sometimes not

@Archomeda hmm, I have a feeling the offhand status is encoded on the script rather than the skill fact
wait
it's right there on the skill
{
    "text": "Ferocity per Axe",
    "type": "AttributeAdjust",
    "icon": "https://render.guildwars2.com/file/E1E7C4D3A6E62F3D5C9F627CE8175BFB0C614CBE/156652.png",
    "value": 150,
    "target": "CritDamage"
}
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 16:25
yeah... but it's per axe, do we have to parse the text for that?
since a warrior can wield 2 axes, the attribute adjust can be +300
the implementation is via a script that fires every time ... your equipment changes?
I'm not sure what this handler is
but as far as I'm concerned if it's encoded in a script (which this is) I'm not touching it :<
halting problem and all
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 16:27
:worried:
there are probably more traits that have scripts attached that do obscure things like this that's officially not supported?
very very likely

build editor exceptions here we come
there's at least one of those for every profession iirc
darthmaim
@darthmaim
Dec 07 2016 16:28
so many, especially rangers
so many "your pet..."
e.g., necromancer trait for "speed for each dagger"
I think there might be a thief trait for each dagger too, that might have been baselined though
darthmaim

Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 16:57
@lye what was the deal again with the damage facts not having damage values?
i feel like we've discussed this in the past
the damage values are highly variable on a lot of things (weapon and stats, mostly)
I don't think the wiki formula is correct? I couldn't get the raw values for a level 80 and such to line up
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Dec 07 2016 16:58
I thought they didn't want to expose the coefficients that would reveal the damage formula
oh
also that
i forgot about that
>___>
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Dec 07 2016 16:59
I mean, I'm not sure why that's such a secret honestly, but..
..dammit gitter doesn't have /shrug
:shrug:
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 16:59
the wiki is the only source that has damage coefficients, they are not mentioned in the game
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:00
well except for damage ranges on weapons and power/condi damage values, how different skills and conditions scale of power/condi damage is not documented in the actual game
@windwarrior IIRC those were empirically discovered
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:00
probably yeah
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:04
same here @Eearslya... why a secret? D:
did we change how damage works at some point
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:05
to keep the toxic elitists from having accurate data to say skill n is stronger then skill m
this doesn't look like how I remember it
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:05
-___-
that was interesting gitter... a horizontal line
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:06
(that was very obviously very sarcastic)
(please dont take any offense)
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:06
unsure @lye, i'm not that into how damage, etc works
so there's "damage adjust" and "damage multiplier" fields
I swear half the skills had a non-zero damage adjust value
I haven't found one yet though
I am so confused
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:08
i don't even know in which order things are applied, and i think sometimes the game doesn't know either
adjust is additive, multiplier is multiplicative
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:08
yeah, thats hilarious
there's also additional fields for "scale by level linearly" and "scale by level exponentially" but those aren't typically used for skill damages
those are more for the leveling armor/weapons and other misc. stuff iirc
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:09
I think I calculated that a fully buffed ele did 19x damage to KC when he is in his exposed dps phase
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:09
i hope that the person or people that designed this in the past before gw2's release are still with anet?
because this system seems so complicated XD
no comment
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:10
is also a comment
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:10
haha :D
well, at least for the build editor we can throw away the scaling by level stuff
yay @darthmaim and me
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:11
what? are you not supporting my level 47 build :(
i'll just add in the multiplier
that's easy enough -- it's already exposed by the backend
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:12
sure @windwarrior, we just output only 0 values
            // NOTE: Leave these omitted for now since they're not exposed in-game and I'm
            // pretty sure the wiki's documentation on how damage works is a bit wrong.
            // base           : fact.base,
            // multiplier     : fact.multiplier,
i like easy changes
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:13

but uncommenting is hard
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:13
the wiki lists their procedure for damage measurements here
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:13
you never know what might break ;P
pfft
            // NOTE: Leave the base damage adjustment hidden for now -- pretty sure
            // it's zero for all skills of interest.
            // base           : fact.base,
            dmg_multiplier : fact.multiplier
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:14
the wiki indeed does this heuristically
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:14
btw, does someone know if the damage values on the weapon tooltips ingame changes depending on your selected target?
Nabrok
@Nabrok
Dec 07 2016 17:15
I think it's just based on weapon level and rarity.
tfw you go to test a change but new chrome tabs insta-crash
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:16
@Archomeda you can easily test that by retargetting the light/med/heavy golemn in HotM
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:16
oh wait, the ? tooltip on the wiki next to the damage value just explains how you can calculate the actual damage done
true @windwarrior, will try that later
imo the numbers could just have been arbitrary numbers and people still wouldn't care or know what the hell it's supposed to mean
as long as it scales properly with might etc
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Dec 07 2016 17:18
I to the day have no clue what those numbers mean :')
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:18
i mean, when i get might stacks, i see those numbers go up... and higher means more damage, and that's as far as i got
#403 blammo
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:19
the number itself is meaningless without context xD
seems my internet is derping a bit
woot
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Dec 07 2016 17:26
well, at least when the conditions were changed, anet was pretty forgiving to add the formulas to the patch notes, because i think they weren't known before that?
I don't remember lol
