So...When an item doesn't have a localized name, what is the id that gets shown instead? That number between the [[[]]]
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:27
you mean (<number>) or ((<number>))?
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:28
This one is a chat link that rendered as [[[736015]]]
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:28
pretty sure they are normal brackets usually
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:28
Definitely not an item ID
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:29
but yeah, not item ids

interesting, i can't find this in the .dat file
i can find something like ((784471)) for example
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:32
It..may have gotten removed, actually. If I recall, it was an outfit that..made your character entirely naked. XD
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:32
oh hm
do you know the date or build #?
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:32
8/23/2016
someone randomly linked it in LA
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:32
build 65840
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:33
Do you actually keep past builds?
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:33
i keep an automated history of strings yes
in a private git repo :P
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:33
Oh I meant like..the whole dat file XD
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:33
oh no please XD
why too much data
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:34
Store a binary diff each time
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:34
heh
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:34
(do binary diffs exist?)
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:34
you know .dat file is like an archive right?
i'll have to do that on file-by-file basis
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:34
Oh yeah, I've been through it a few times
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:34
anyway, the string was stored as [lbracket][lbracket]736015[rbracket][rbracket]
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:34
Still don't get how some of the texture files work but
XD
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:35
1487638_0783
but i'm still as clueless as ever what this number means
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:35
String ID, I'm guessing?
What happens if you search for that?
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:35
still, funnily enough, 1487638_0779 has ((736011))
so yeah, it's probably a string id
i suppose these ids are somewhere stored in the .dat
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:39
Yeah, somewhere in the item data
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:41
wait, that file+id i mentioned, was for the chinese localization lol
english has a different file :P
should have been file 1485753, but who cares
i was once toying around the idea of keeping a history of .dat changes
i actually did make a draft website for it
storing all that data takes quite a lot of space :smile:
plus, i was really unsure if anet would not mind it...
the idea was kinda like what steamdb does with steam
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:45
A website? Maybe not..but just keeping changes for yourself, sure
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:45
well, maybe not a public website
but more personal/restricted :P
also something interesting, seems some old wintersday versions of certain maps were removed in the patch 3 weeks ago
MapWintersdayPvPLobby2013, MapWintersdayDivinity2014, MapWvWRedHomeLake01Wintersday2016 haha
but, somehow MapWintersDayValleyDivinity2013 stayed :P
these internal map names are amazing to see really
just like the MapValleyDivinity and MapValleyReach :D
(if you've followed reddit a few weeks ago)
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:51
oh hold on, those wintersday versions of maps i mentioned, they got re-added when wintersday started actually
so, seems indeed that the approach is, whenever there's an event, add the maps; and when the event is over, revert back XD
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jan 29 2017 04:52
That seemed to be what lye was saying XD
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 04:52
yes
i still wonder about MapWintersDayValleyDivinity2013 though
maybe the approach was different back then
or, because it's not used anymore, just leave it in, for no reason at all :D
apparently the launcher for osx is mentioned as well, for 6 months now
our windows clients just skip it of course
i wonder how far that team is right now :O
(not that i have a mac though, but i know people that do)
Werdes
@werdes
Jan 29 2017 14:32
the current lunar new year version also lacks the character styling npc on royal terrace that was added this year, so the map was probably just switched out for an older version..

@Darqam
Jan 29 2017 14:37
@Archomeda, someone made a complete(?) list of internal names here: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:MadMaxx/Maps if you care for it
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jan 29 2017 15:08
oh haha, didn't know that :D
