"eh damn we accidentally put a ton of new textures into the game"
the moral of the story, git status before git add .

git commit -a && git push forget the consequences

anet doesn't use git for that :P

lol, in the Heart of the Mists, the personal story marker points through the old LA portal

that thing is fairly persistent in getting you to do your story
odd to see a hotfix for that
instead of a regular scheduled release
there were some scheduling issues
so it got shifted to today basically
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:15
so... i suppose people can test it relatively soon?
it's live right now
Archomeda

o-oh...

Jun 21 2017 19:16
@lye How are things going with the wvw guild stats?
i haven't had any time to work on it, unfortunately
i tried turning it on last week (or the week before?) and the request volume flooded the network dangerously
BoyC
@BoyC
Jun 21 2017 19:18
speaking of the mac client, there's still no mumble link on mac, right?
nope
BoyC
@BoyC
Jun 21 2017 19:19
no plans for it either?
doubtful
BoyC
@BoyC
Jun 21 2017 19:21
it's not that i'd use it, it's just a very good reason to blow off people wanting a mac port of my overlay with :)
Nabrok
@Nabrok
Jun 21 2017 19:24
I miss mumble itself sometimes. I don't miss running it for an entire server.
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:24
mumble is a little bit outdated imo
BoyC
@BoyC
Jun 21 2017 19:25
the api is super useful tho :)
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:25
good for having your own server etc, but the client itself is lackluster
true, although a little bit limited :(
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Jun 21 2017 19:25
mumble to me, is still the best sounding one of the bunch
Nabrok
@Nabrok
Jun 21 2017 19:25
It is, but the structure was a lot more configurable than teamspeak and especially discord.
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Jun 21 2017 19:25
and my server is paid till the end of 2018 :P
the devs working on it are pretty slow though
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:26
i like teamspeak more for the features it has, compared to mumble
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Jun 21 2017 19:26
you look at their roadmap, and somestuff has been there forever
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:26
i don't like how to manage the server though
i think the development was stalled for a few years, a while back
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Jun 21 2017 19:26
oh god, I had to manager our WvW TS server once
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:26
like, it stayed on the 1.2.x branch forever
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Jun 21 2017 19:26
If I have to do that again, someone will need to kill me
@Archomeda yeah 1.3 was suppose to have tons of feature
Nabrok
@Nabrok
Jun 21 2017 19:28
I remember when we first added API authentication, most people didn't have a problem with it, but of course there were a few who were convinced we were trying to do something nefarious.
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:28
wait... it's still on 1.2.x
wth
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Jun 21 2017 19:29
yeah, they have a dev snapshot of 1.3x
and seems like they're still working on it
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:29
that has been there for 4 years i think
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:29
1.2.3 is what i meant when they were stuck for a few years
once i tried looking at the source code... needless to say, i understood very little :smile:
@Nabrok yeah, there are always people who think you can hijack their account whenever you have their key
or people who have their "secret wvw builds"
(yes, i had a person once who used that excuse)
like if i care :joy:
Nabrok
@Nabrok
Jun 21 2017 19:34
Hmm, I know guilds sometimes like to keep their wvw builds private
Haven't really heard of an individual doing that
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:34
this was just something i was making for my pve guild, not even wvw related at all :D

I've been running the Borlis Pass Teamspeak for the past year or so..every now and then I remember it and think "oh shit, is that still running?" and there it is, faithfully plugging away.
Edgar Doiron
@Coffee4cr
Jun 21 2017 19:38
lol
Nabrok
@Nabrok
Jun 21 2017 19:38
It's not the main server comms anymore?
Jeppe Vennekilde
@vennekilde
Jun 21 2017 19:38
@Nabrok Some people at least here on FSP still hold that opinion, to the point where they ask for temporary access every third week
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jun 21 2017 19:38
for Borlis Pass? I think it is...
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:38
@vennekilde oh god lol
Jeppe Vennekilde
@vennekilde
Jun 21 2017 19:41
Sometimes i think if we hadn't supported temporary access, it wouldn't be such a big deal for people to just register their api key
Nabrok
@Nabrok
Jun 21 2017 19:42
We didn't have temporary access, but guild leaders could drag unverified people into restricted rooms if they wanted.
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jun 21 2017 19:44
Blackgate has a teamspeak bot for API-key verification
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:44
so does gandara
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jun 21 2017 19:44
There was a big fuss over it when the API went sideways and gave off false negatives as it checked the API keys
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:46
lol, i think gandara's bot just crashed
when that happened
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 19:56
btw, reading this makes me thinking about creating a github pages website that sums up the endpoints and information that will be exposed depending on the permissions you give for an api key
but... effort D:
and it will probably not even convince those people anyway
Jeppe Vennekilde
@vennekilde
Jun 21 2017 20:00
Don't remember any time where the api would return something like false positives, what happened?
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 20:01
nah, pretty sure it was just the api not accepting keys or something
Nabrok
@Nabrok
Jun 21 2017 20:01
Some bots have deregistered on errors.
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 20:01
api never returned false positives, just errors
Jeppe Vennekilde
@vennekilde
Jun 21 2017 20:12
right, i figured there would be errors from time to time, so i designed it so it would only remove access, if the api key had not been succesful, within the past 5 days.
Should give lye long enough to find the fire extinguisher :smile:
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jun 21 2017 20:15
The person who owned the bot claimed that the API was specifically returning "invalid key" for API requests, not just 400s or 404s
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 20:16
yeah, there have been at least 1 occasion where the api returned that instead of a normal error, even while the key did exist
but that was mostly for new keys i think, although it did affect some older keys as well
Jeppe Vennekilde
@vennekilde
Jun 21 2017 20:16
I think that might have been the time where api keys created after a certain date, would not work
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 20:16
^ that
@vennekilde I mean historically I think we've had outages longer than that :\
In the future it might be better to only remove perms if (1) the API returns valid data, and (2) the world no longer matches
Transient errors are pretty common, unfortunately.
Jeppe Vennekilde
@vennekilde
Jun 21 2017 21:42
@lye I might have once added a few days to everyone's last updated field, but that is a bit fussy, i know i thought it doing it, if something like that ever happened
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jun 21 2017 21:56
@lye Yeah, the problem with that is that (according to him) he was hitting /v2/account and getting {"error":"invalid key"}. So..it looked like valid data, and without a valid key, he couldn't check the world
fair
windwarrior
@windwarrior
Jun 21 2017 23:35
Finally more reasons for that local API right ;)
Now that mac has no mumble link
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jun 21 2017 23:55
is there still no alternative to creating a certificate on localhost (or w/e domain links to it) and ship it?
wss i mean

hey lye can we have oauth back now :smirk:
