marketing should put the release date of Ep.6 in there
or any reasonable announcement really. Put in there when PvP seasons start, end. When a new event is held etc.
its great having this info on a loadscreen I am stuck watching anyway

in other news, Harvard managed to put a GIF into the DNA of a bacteria
sadly, the bacteriais not actually displaying the GIF in any way, its DNA is just a storage space for the GIFs data

lol
them displaying it would be neat

basically they achieved as much practical output as gluing a usb stick into your arm

well dna IS a data storage medium, I just wonder what speeds it will reach to store anything in it :)

actually you could smuggle data as long as its a gif

Jul 13 2017 17:31
pretty sure that a otp encoded email would be easier for that :D

yeah, I was like, maybe they make gif frames with proteines
but maybe too much :P

i guess johnny mnemonic would have been quite a different movie if all the data courier would have had to do at the end of a job was to "spit here to deposit data" :D

so, when do we get our own usb port?
storing data in yourself is a good way to not get your data stolen
unless you're abducted of course :P

anyone wanna incorporate the gw2 source code into your dna? :D

the entire p4 history
that's a ton of GB worth of data i imagine

Now, researchers report that they’ve come up with a new way to encode digital data in DNA to create the highest-density large-scale data storage scheme ever invented. Capable of storing 215 petabytes (215 million gigabytes) in a single gram of DNA...
doesn't that number count base pairs rather than any support structure needed for reading/writing data?

inb4 we get living organisms as usb sticks
Eearslya Sleiarion
@Eearslya
Jul 13 2017 17:46
problem with that is that the DNA storage capacity would be limited; if it's actually a living organism it'd have to have regular DNA too
but hey
it'd be the best RAID setup ever
copy of your data per cell
I was under the impression that DNA does a lot of work within the cell
like you can't just stuff a gif in there and expect the machine to continue functioning
That's like storing spaghetti in your tower PC
Like it might work for awhile but it's gonna short out at some point and ruin the spaghetti (and the PC)
Archomeda
@Archomeda
Jul 13 2017 17:48
hey now, spaghetti code is a thing you know? ;P

there are large chunks of DNA that go unused for the most part
telomeres, for one
though that's at risk of being cut off

I am fairly certain I can put some spagetti in my pc without a problem
it is an awful plan

Jul 13 2017 22:08
don't you
I had to actua;ly log in to see if I had reached last tier of diamond chest this week in WvW
do you realize how much effort that was?
hahaha fair
I thought you meant more "someone has to implement it if I do"
Darqam
@Darqam
Jul 13 2017 22:13
well people would have to do that as well
but that's not my problem :p
