Belated response to the WvW forums comment:
I think a group of consistent WvWers have felt like they've been somewhat the redheaded step-child of the game for a long time, which means they treat every update fairly defensively, even the somewhat minor ones like gliding. Ultimately, it's grown out of a lack of trust in the dev team - McKenna has been much better in terms of communication than past leads, but there are some core trust issues that stem from either being ignored until fairly recently, having cross server communication (trolly or not) being removed from the official forums, and some of experimental mechanics being a huge mess (portable cannons being the go-to).
The biggest issue though is that there are some core problems with WvW that have grown so deep into the fabric on the game mode that they are nigh unfixable without a complete reworking - Which I frankly don't think Anet has the resources to devote to at this point. Unfortunately, even with great changes like the recent rewards system, the addition of legendary armor, and potentially gliding, the core issues with population imbalance and uneven matchups remain, however many manual bandaids get put on them. So people get increasingly bitter or leave the game mode (and generally the game as a whole) outright.
